  • Candidates must be able to control equipment operations and maneuver the truck into and out of minimum-clearance spaces, using mirrors to back distances of approximately 120 feet or more.
  • Candidates must be able to recognize unacceptable waste, such as gasoline or other flammable materials.
  • Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Candidates must be able to read, write, and comprehend associated documents and maps.
  • Candidates must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Candidates must follow company safety policies and procedures.
  • Candidates must be able to stand, walk, use their hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, and smell.
  • Candidates must have close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus for maneuvering vehicles in tight and high-traffic areas.
  • Candidates must be able to lift or move up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Candidates must be able to sit for up to 75% of the time and work in usually loud conditions.
  • Candidates must be able to work outdoors up to 100% of the time, including exposure to loud noise, humidity, storms, extreme heat and cold, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, and motor vehicle traffic.
  • Candidates must be able to work routes away from the branch continuously throughout the day and occasionally work in high, precarious places.
  • Valid work authorization in the United States is required; candidates must provide documentation confirming eligibility to work before starting.
Responsibilities
  • Drive a rear-load, split-body, Curotto, or automated-side-load truck along designated routes to collect waste and transport it to post-collection facilities.
  • Assist helpers in loading solid waste into the truck hopper as route conditions require.
  • Use helpers when backing up according to company policy.
  • Ensure company employees and third-party helpers follow company policies, procedures, safety compliance requirements, and quality standards on designated routes.
  • Operate the mechanical packer to load and compact trash from the hopper into the truck body.
  • Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections and submit a vehicle condition report at the end of the shift.
  • Interact courteously with customers and the public along the route to answer questions or respond to requests, and notify a supervisor about issues requiring management action.
  • Clean loose trash from the truck or the ground around the truck and container after spills during dumping to maintain clean customer sites and safe roads and highways.
  • Maintain and submit a DOT logbook, daily route/productivity sheet, and vehicle condition report as required by law or company policy.
  • Maneuver the truck into and out of minimum-clearance spaces, using mirrors to back up.
  • Use a key map and GPS to locate service addresses.
  • Follow safe operating practices, including lockout/tagout procedures, to ensure proper truck operation.
  • Monitor operations for loose debris by using mirrors or direct sight, listening for debris falling onto the truck during dumping, and scanning customer sites before and after dumping.
  • Comply with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and EPA regulations and standards.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

GFL Environmental launches two RNG facilities with OPAL Fuels to power 800 heavy-duty trucks

OPAL Fuels and GFL Environmental have begun construction on two renewable natural gas facilities at landfills in Georgia and Alabama. The projects will convert landfill methane into approximately 15 million gasoline gallon equivalents of RNG annually, enough to fuel roughly 800 Class 8 trucks. The expansion deepens GFL's partnership with OPAL Fuels in decarbonising transportation and building RNG infrastructure. However, the development doesn't substantially alter GFL's near-term investment narrative, which remains focused on integrating past acquisitions, managing high leverage and delivering on 2026 revenue guidance. GFL recently authorised share buybacks of up to 34.7 million shares and increased its dividend by 10%. Analysts project the company's revenue could reach CA$8.6 billion by 2029, implying 8.8% annual growth.

GFL to acquire Secure Waste for $6.4B, adding 80+ facilities across Western Canada

GFL Environmental has agreed to acquire Secure Waste Infrastructure for $6.4 billion, expanding its presence in Western Canada and North Dakota. The deal includes over 80 locations comprising 12 landfills, 55 waste treatment facilities, 12 recycling facilities, 98 injection wells and five transfer stations. Secure shareholders can choose $24.75 in cash, 0.4195 GFL subordinate voting shares, or a combination for each share held. Cash payments are capped at 20% of the total consideration, with GFL shares limited to 80%. GFL founder and CEO Patrick Dovigi said the acquisition will densify the company's Western Canada footprint and enhance its ability to offer comprehensive waste management services. The transaction requires shareholder approval and is expected to close in the second half of 2025.
