Requirements
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician must be an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • A Master's Degree is required.
  • National Board Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification is required.
  • The candidate must be able to perform complete history and physical examinations and document findings in the medical record.
  • The candidate must be able to order and collect data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information, and indicated diagnostic procedures.
  • The candidate must be able to assess risks associated with the care of acutely ill and complex chronically ill patients.
  • The candidate must be able to collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in diagnosing acute and complex chronic conditions.
  • The candidate must be able to manage diagnostic testing, including ordering, interpretation, performance, and supervision.
  • The candidate must be able to formulate differential diagnoses in order of priority.
  • The candidate must be able to identify complications and implement appropriate interventions.
  • The candidate must be able to develop, document, and manage comprehensive plans of care addressing complex acute and chronic healthcare needs.
  • The candidate must be able to use evidence-based practice guidelines and protocols to create individualized, dynamic care plans.
  • The candidate must be able to prescribe diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions.
  • The candidate must be able to maintain required continuing education units and active membership in a professional organization.
Responsibilities
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician functions as an integral member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team within the acute care hospital setting.
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician provides comprehensive inpatient care on the Medical Oncology service line in collaboration with attending physicians and allied health professionals.
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician may serve as the first responder for nursing and house staff when patient status changes, including placing orders and initiating procedural and resuscitative interventions.
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician identifies expected outcomes based on diagnosis and develops, documents, and manages a comprehensive plan of care.
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician implements and adjusts the plan of care as needed.
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician may perform advanced procedures consistent with privileges and competency validation.
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician maintains effective communication and collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician engages and communicates with patients, families, and staff to promote continuity of care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician documents or dictates key components of patient care in the medical record, including histories and physicals, daily progress notes, plans of care, problem lists, procedure notes, acute event notes, transfer summaries, discharge summaries, clinic notes as applicable, and death summaries.
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician ensures documentation is timely, meets acute care compliance standards, and accurately reflects patient acuity.
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician precepts, mentors, and educates graduate students.
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician seeks opportunities to engage in research and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • The Advanced Practice Clinician participates in Advanced Practice Grand Rounds and specialty-specific meetings.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience in Bone Marrow Transplant or a hematology/oncology setting is strongly preferred.
