This busy area near Columbia is getting a new Ace Hardware store. Here's when.

This busy area near Columbia is getting a new Ace Hardware store. Here's when. October 30, 2026 5:15 AM Gift Article A growing area in Irmo is getting a new location of a well-known hardware store. Bowers Ace Hardware, which operates a half-dozen Ace locations across South Carolina, is set to debut a new store at 10546 Broad River Road in Irmo. The store will begin a soft opening phase on Nov. 9, with a grand opening celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 21, according to a news release. The grand opening on Nov. 21 will feature special promotions, giveaways, product demonstrations and more. The Irmo Bowers Ace clocks in at 14,000 square feet, with a 5,000-square-foot garden center. The store will offer hardware, garden supplies, paint and paint supplies (including offerings from Benjamin Moore), grilling equipment and more. "Opening our sixth store is certainly an exciting milestone for our company, but our focus hasn't changed," Bowers Ace Hardware president Claude Bowers said in a statement. "Our goal has always been simple - take care of the customer better than anyone else. That means having knowledgeable people on the floor, keeping the products our customers need in stock, and being willing to go the extra mile to help someone get a project done. "We look forward to bringing that same commitment to the Irmo community." Other Bowers Ace locations include spots in Cayce, Columbia, Lexington, Elgin and Johns Island. The Elgin location debuted earlier this year at the Pontiac Towne Center shopping development just off Two Notch Road. "We've made a deliberate effort to build stores that can serve a wide range of customers," Bowers said in a statement. "Whether someone is a homeowner tackling a weekend project or a contractor who depends on us every day, our responsibility is the same. We need to have the right products, the right people, and the ability to deliver when and where the customer needs us." The Broad River Road corridor and connecting Dutch Fork Road in the Ballentine area of Irmo continue to grow with retail businesses restaurants and more. Businesses within a short distance of the Bowers Ace include Dutch Bros Coffee, Chick-fil-A, McDonald's, Walmart Supercenter and the Ballentine Family YMCA, among many others. Coronado's Village Ace Hardware to close at end of year.

Coronado's Village Ace Hardware to close at end of year. * by Lauren Boomer * Oct 15, 2026 Updated Oct 15, 2026 * 0 After more than three decades of serving the Coronado community, Village Ace Hardware on Orange Avenue will close its doors at year's end. The closure comes as longtime owner Glenn Shirer, a familiar face to generations of local customers, prepares to retire, closing a chapter of local retail history. For more than 30 years, Village Ace Hardware has been the neighborhood's go-to destination for home improvement needs, offering everything from hand tools, fasteners, and paint matching to lawn and garden supplies, outdoor living products, and key-cutting services. Known for its nostalgic charm, the store features original wooden floors, towering aisles packed with inventory, open-stock bins of nuts and bolts, and even classic gum machines near the entrance. Visitors often recall the store as a comforting throwback to small-town hardware shops. Shirer, who has owned and operated the shop since its early days, will retire at the end of the year, beginning a much-deserved new chapter. Many around town know Shirer as a helpful hand, a reliable friend, and someone who can, and will, help you with a wide range of project needs. The closure of Village Ace Hardware will leave a 2,444-square-foot vacancy on Orange Avenue. Urban Property Group (UPG) will be representing the property. UPG specializes in neighborhoods spanning from Downtown/Central San Diego to North County coastal, delivering sales, leasing, and advisory services to commercial property owners. Business operations are expected to conclude by December 31, 2026, with the space officially available for lease in early 2027. UPG is currently inviting interest from retail, hospitality, and creative concepts looking to establish a presence in this prestigious coastal community. Until then, Village Ace Hardware will continue to welcome customers, remaining true to its Ace Hardware roots as "the Helpful Place." Shirer and his team are committed to providing the same personal service and neighborly advice that have made the store a cornerstone of the community for over three decades. Lin's Fresh Market and ACE Hardware cut a ribbon on the new locations, bringing jobs and expanded shopping options to the Enoch community. The 48,000-square-foot grocery store, which opened its doors on Sept. 21, includes a pharmacy, Starbucks, Arctic Circle and BreadBot, alongside the recently opened ACE Hardware location. The two stores employ more than 165 people and are expected to serve as important resources for this fast-growing community. The ceremony, which featured local Enoch residents, began with members from the Southern Utah University ROTC presenting the colors as students in the Canyon View High School choir performed the national anthem. Children from Enoch Elementary led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Greg Welling, vice president of Lin's Fresh Market, then presented both schools with $2,000 donations as part of Lin's commitment to the community. The ceremony continued with remarks from Mayor Rushton and store leadership. A few speakers were emotional as they reflected on the important role local grocery stores play in strengthening communities, creating jobs and serving as gathering places for residents. "This store has been years in the making, and it's incredibly rewarding to see the community's excitement and support," said Rochelle Mellor, store director of Lin's Fresh Market Enoch.
