Requirements
  • Graduate of a Medical Imaging program.
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
  • Follow written and verbal directions in English.
  • Prioritize work tasks and multitask.
  • Differentiate various shades of gray on a black-and-white monitor or photograph.
  • Stand and walk for six to seven hours per day.
  • Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Push the ultrasound machine for portable examinations.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and perform imaging procedures to produce sonographic medical images for the diagnosis or treatment of patients according to department standards, professional literature, protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain the required professional and technical competencies for the position, organization, accreditation bodies, and licensing bodies where applicable.
  • Review each physician request for complete procedural information and refer questions to the sonologist or referring physician before performing the study.
  • Produce images of optimal quality.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all Protected Health Information.
  • Assess patient needs related to comfort, hygiene, and range of motion and provide appropriate support.
  • Educate patients about sonographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions.
  • Promote a team approach to Radiology services through positive interactions with technical, support, nursing, resident, and medical staff.
  • Engage in problem solving, crisis management, and systems implementation throughout the hospital to support efficient, high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
  • Perform as a clinical instructor in accordance with the standards and protocols of the sonography education program.
  • Evaluate and document student clinical performance fairly, consistently, and in a timely manner according to educational program guidelines.
  • Maintain professional development in sonographic imaging and techniques.
  • Participate in in-house training and development offerings and apply the resulting skills and knowledge to position performance.
  • Perform imaging techniques, patient care, and guest-relations behaviors in accordance with the ARDMS Code of Ethics, organizational policies, department policies, state and federal regulations, and Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Report equipment failures immediately upon identification.
  • Perform high-level disinfection of ultrasound equipment according to department policy.
  • Work an evening shift Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to midnight and participate in night, weekend, and holiday on-call rotation.
