About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical and/or business discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 7 years of technical program or project management experience delivering complex engineering programs, ideally within a data, platform, or infrastructure organization.
  • Working knowledge of data and cloud fundamentals, including strong SQL, relational and analytical databases, data modelling concepts, APIs, and public cloud.
  • Demonstrated success partnering with engineering teams to deliver technical outcomes, not just tracking them.
  • Track record of managing dependencies, risks, and issues across multiple teams and driving items to closure without direct authority.
  • Comfort with Agile ways of working and the planning and reporting mechanics that support them.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical problems, plans, and trade-offs clearly to engineers and senior non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to set goals, meet deadlines, and effectively communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to engage independently, challenge assumptions, and learn.
  • Ability to stay commercially focused and push for quantifiable commercial impact.
  • Commitment to platform quality and the experience of the engineers and users who depend on it, including advocating for them.
  • Ability to lead by example with a positive, solutions-oriented attitude.
  • Strong work ethic and a sense of ownership and urgency.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with Data Platform leadership to drive strategy, planning, and execution for data curation capabilities and the Lakehouse.
  • Translate strategy into a sequenced plan, make the state of the world visible, unblock engineering teams, and execute high-priority initiatives.
  • Break complex, ambiguous problems into actionable steps and use early releases and incremental delivery to generate evidence of value.
  • Work with engineering leads to define roadmap milestones, sequence dependencies, surface trade-offs, and keep plans current as priorities shift.
  • Maintain a trusted view of major commitments to divisions, Engineering leadership, Risk, Audit, and regulators, drive them to closure, and escalate risks early.
  • Track and drive remediation of technology risk, control, audit, and regulatory items, partnering with Risk, Compliance, and Engineering leads to meet obligations on time.
  • Lead cross-cutting programs end to end, including platform migrations, adoption and decommissioning efforts, data model and API rollouts, query engine and performance initiatives, and AI-enablement programs.
  • Support budget planning and forecasting, headcount and vendor spend, and Lakehouse cloud consumption and cost efficiency; build reporting to support evidence-based cost decisions.
  • Partner with leadership on organizational planning, hiring pipelines, onboarding, location strategy, engagement, and talent and performance processes.
  • Become a proficient user of the Legend platform and understand its data models, data APIs, connection patterns, and query workloads well enough to challenge assumptions, identify dependencies, and represent the platform to senior stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain metrics for platform health, adoption, delivery throughput, cost, and user experience.
  • Help ensure AI-driven capabilities are delivered in line with the firm's data governance and AI standards.
  • Build relationships with divisional partners and users, ensure delivered work has impact, and connect team work to commercial outcomes.
  • Improve organizational planning, reporting, and governance rhythms, and shape standards within the firmwide Engineering community.
  • Contribute to the Engineering function and work with Data Engineering leadership, divisional users, and engineers to deliver solutions for internal and external business opportunities.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree or MBA in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on exposure to modern Lakehouse and data platform technologies, such as object storage, open table formats including Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake, Spark, Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or comparable technologies.
  • Familiarity with data modelling and semantic modelling approaches, data APIs, data contracts, and data governance, lineage, and access control concepts.
  • Understanding of AI and machine learning delivery, including the model development lifecycle, retrieval-augmented generation, LLM-based applications, and the data foundations required to support them.
  • Scripting or data manipulation skills in Python.
  • Experience supporting a technology risk, controls, audit, or regulatory book of work.
  • Prior experience in financial services or another highly regulated, data-intensive environment.
  • Experience with or contributions to open-source data tooling; the Legend platform is open sourced through FINOS.

About the company

Goldman Sachs advises companies and governments on mergers, raises money for them by selling their stocks and bonds, and trades securities for big investors such as hedge funds and pension funds. It led Ford Motor's 1956 stock market debut, then the largest share sale in US history. Traders buy and sell stocks, bonds, currencies, and commodities for clients and lend them money, while bankers earn a fee on each deal they advise on or arrange. Its asset and wealth management arm invests for institutions and wealthy families and charges fees based on the money it oversees. The firm was founded in 1869, when it began brokering short-term IOUs for New York merchants, and it is based in New York City.

What believers are saying

  • Trading drives the boom: stock-trading revenue hit a record $7.42 billion in the June 2026 quarter, up 72%.
  • Pay is climbing: compensation rose 20% to $11.5 billion in the first half of 2026, while staff grew 1%.
  • A Goldman stint opens doors: alumni Rishi Sunak, Mario Draghi and Mark Carney rose to lead Britain, Italy and Canada.

What critics are saying

  • AI is costing jobs: Goldman's October 2025 AI plan came with a "limited reduction in roles" and slower hiring.
  • Expect five office days a week: Goldman reaffirmed the rule in 2023, and its CEO calls remote work an aberration.
  • Stock awards have lost value: shares fell 23% from July 15 to October 8, 2026, versus 18% at Morgan Stanley.

What makes Goldman Sachs unique

  • Traders outearn Goldman's famous merger advisers: trading made 57% of first-half 2026 revenue, versus 8% from advice.
  • Goldman is Wall Street's top merger adviser: it earned $4.6 billion advising on 2025 deals, versus JPMorgan's $3.1 billion.
  • The top prize is still partner: though public since 1999, Goldman named just 95 partners from 46,000-plus staff in 2024.

Goldman upgrades CoreWeave to Buy with $106 target despite 56% share slump

Goldman Sachs upgraded CoreWeave from Neutral to Buy on October 19, 2026, even as it cut its 12-month price target from $139 to $106. The new target implies a gain of about 73% from the October 16 close of $61.39. CoreWeave shares have lost nearly half their value since August, partly because yields on its 2031 and 2032 bonds climbed to around 15%. Analyst Gabriela Borges argues investors have overestimated the effect of future borrowing and underestimated the profit from new data center contracts. CoreWeave rents Nvidia chips to firms such as Meta and OpenAI. It had locked in about $104 billion in future revenue by the end of the second quarter, but posted a $626 million net loss that quarter. Ark Invest bought about $25.8 million of the stock in mid-October.

Tokenized stock trading surges overseas to $11.31B on Robinhood Chain as Goldman, Microsoft object in US

Tokenized stock trading is growing overseas while major US companies resist it at home, according to Bitwise Asset Management's latest quarterly report. On Robinhood Chain, tokenized stock volume rose from $526 million in July to $2.21 billion in August, then to $11.31 billion in September. Tokenized equities were also the fastest-growing category on Solana. Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Caterpillar, McDonald's, Western Digital, and Alphabet have objected to tokenized versions of their shares trading on OKXICE, a venue launched by crypto exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange. Sixteen companies have now objected. The US Securities and Exchange Commission's innovation exemption lets companies opt out. OKXICE co-chairman Andrew Cuomo said many companies would "wait and see" before taking part.

Goldman Sachs vs Bank of America: why the investment bank is the better 2026 buy

Bank of America and Goldman Sachs offer two ways to bet on financials in 2026: steady retail banking or market-driven investment banking. A Motley Fool writer favours Goldman, which has beaten both Bank of America and the S&P 500. In fiscal 2025, Bank of America's revenue fell about 0.5% to nearly $191.6 billion, with net income of nearly $30.5 billion. Goldman's revenue fell 1.4% to about $125.1 billion, with net income of close to $17.2 billion. Goldman's debt-to-equity ratio is roughly 4.9, against nearly 1.2 at Bank of America. Goldman's free cash flow was negative $47.2 billion; Bank of America's was nearly $12.6 billion. Bank of America looks cheaper on forward P/E and P/S ratios. It also faced a $1.2 billion regulatory charge in 2026, while Goldman reached a $500 million shareholder litigation settlement.
