Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in a customer-focused or service setting are required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and computer use is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Assist providers during examinations and perform clinical, procedural, and information-systems tasks supporting patient care in outpatient clinics.
  • Apply clinical knowledge while assisting providers, anticipate provider needs, and adapt to patient complexity.
  • Attach patients to diagnostic and medical equipment, including a dynamapp, pulse oximeter, electrocardiogram, cardiac monitor, and pneumatic tourniquet.
  • Provide patients with information, comfort, and care during examinations; explain next steps, systems, and status; ensure supplies and equipment are available; and provide provider-prepared discharge instructions.
  • Maintain appropriate supplies and equipment in examination rooms according to provider preferences.
  • Manage room utilization and minimize patient wait times.
  • Escort patients to examination areas, obtain vital signs, perform diagnostic testing and specimen collection as ordered, and label, log, and process specimens according to protocol.
  • Enter patient data, condition, and care provided into the electronic medical record system; perform assigned administrative duties such as scheduling and registration.
  • Maintain clinical equipment and medical supply levels through reordering, stocking, cleaning, inventory management, expiration-date monitoring, vendor requisitions, order reconciliation, utilization tracking, and cost-reduction recommendations.
  • Resolve product back-order issues with the purchasing department.
  • Implement infection-prevention measures, monitor practices for breaches, and suggest or initiate corrections.
  • With registered nurse oversight, precept new employees by explaining area requirements and ensuring competence in area practices.
  • Assist providers with surgical procedures by preparing rooms and instruments, giving standard basic patient instructions, anticipating provider needs, preparing and labeling specimens, dressing wounds, checking and calibrating equipment, setting up sterile fields, preparing instrument trays, sterilizing instruments, and reviewing provider-prepared discharge instructions.
