Requirements
  • At least five years of fundraising experience, or more years of experience in a relevant field such as sales, business development, account or relationship management, marketing, or public relations.
  • A bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrated understanding of philanthropy and Development expertise.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, about fundraising support; build rapport in an open, friendly, and accepting way; listen attentively; and change the thinking of, or gain acceptance of, others in varied situations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience interacting with diverse internal and external constituents in a culturally competent and supportive manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle and prioritize multiple projects and tasks.
  • Ability to partner with peers, management, and leadership and collaborate across diverse university units and departments.
  • Understanding of the responsibility to maintain sensitive information and appreciation of ethics and compliance.
  • Openness to travel on behalf of the University of New Hampshire for donor or prospect visits or as the university's representative, including local, regional, and domestic trips.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience working in a metrics-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in database technologies, Microsoft Office, and technological and data-related work.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a portfolio of major gift prospects consisting of Athletics constituents, including alumni, donors, and friends of University of New Hampshire Athletics; maintain frequent contact to build relationships and increase philanthropic support.
  • Conduct up to 150 prospect and potential-prospect visits each year through video conferencing, phone, and in-person meetings, requiring travel across the state, region, and occasionally the United States; engage the Athletics Director, coaches, and staff when needed.
  • Craft funding proposals to facilitate major gifts and multi-year commitments aligned with donors' and the Athletics Director's fundraising or strategic priorities.
  • Solicit gifts of all levels for Athletics, focusing on major gifts, from assigned prospects and other donors or potential donors to achieve annual revenue goals.
  • Assist the Development team with alumni participation goals for the university and Athletics, including engagement in campaigns such as the annual 603 Challenge and year-end campaigns.
  • Facilitate movement through the Development pipeline across Annual Giving, Leadership Giving, Major Giving, and Planned Giving by transitioning prospects with colleagues.
  • Qualify and disqualify prospects for leadership-level giving by assessing their affinity and inclination to engage philanthropically at that level.
  • Steward prospects and donors through their philanthropic journey with University of New Hampshire Athletics to maximize donor potential.
  • Use the customer relationship management database, reports, and other technologies to manage, engage, and expand the portfolio.
  • Plan and execute major gift communications and marketing for Athletics with Development colleagues using mail, phone, email, social media, and other channels.
  • Plan and facilitate major gift cultivation and stewardship activities, including events, programs, and other touchpoints, with Development colleagues.
  • Consult with University of New Hampshire Athletics leadership and staff on fundraising tactics, engage them in strategies when possible, and align efforts with the Athletics Director's priorities and vision.
  • Partner with the Director of Development for Athletics to determine annual goals for individual and unit-level metrics; monitor progress through reports, ensure data is recorded accurately and on time, and work to achieve annual goals.
  • Collaborate across Development and Advancement teams to support division and university fundraising goals and strategic plans and align leadership-giving strategies with broader fundraising and engagement strategies.
  • Participate in events, programs, meetings, and initiatives supporting the University of New Hampshire and Athletics as directed by Development, Advancement, and the Athletics Director.
