Requirements

PhD in computer science, machine learning, and/or natural language processing
Peer reviewed publications in natural language processing, speech, or machine learning
Research and/or work experience in applied NLP or ML, ideally having experience with natural language understanding and/or language modeling applications
Familiar with at least one of the deep learning toolkits, such as PyTorch, Tensorflow and MxNet
An ability to work with a diverse team in an environment of deep thinking, impactful research, and startup-paced execution
Experience with large-scale production model training: Horovod, Ray, Parameter Server, etc
Experience with production model optimization: model compression, TVM, torchscript, etc

Responsibilities

Identify potential applications of ML/NLP relevant to ASAPP, advocate for and formulate research programs for those areas, and provide guidance & drive for selected research program(s)
Develop and optimize ML/NLP models for rapid iteration of our AI SaaS products
Build and maintain toolkits or infrastructure to accelerate ML/NLP innovation
Socialize research findings within ASAPP, advocate for applications of findings, and guide productization
Document, patent, and/or publish significant experimental findings
Mentor and train junior researchers at ASAPP, improving their ability to independently do research, and communicate their findings

Researchers at ASAPP work to fundamentally advance the science of natural language processing and machine learning toward our goal of deploying domain specific AI solutions, and to apply those advances to our products. They leverage the massive amounts of data generated by our products, and our ability to deploy AI features into real-world use to ask and address fundamental research questions in novel ways.

This role is onsite or hybrid flexible. We have offices in New York City, Northern California, and Bozeman.

What you’ll do
