The Startale Bond is available only to individual investors and companies in Japan. The issuance extends stablecoin use beyond crypto trading into corporate finance, creating a real-world example of onchain settlement within conventional financial instruments. JPYSC was developed through collaboration between SBI Group and Startale Group, with SBI Shinsei Trust Bank managing trust assets and SBI VC Trade leading distribution. "By bringing finance onchain, we want to create new options for corporate fundraising and individual investment," said Sota Watanabe, CEO of Startale Group. The initiative aims to establish a model for how yen-denominated stablecoins could function in future capital-market activity.

Startale Japan launches Japan's first digital corporate bond paid in JPYSC.

Startale Japan launches Japan's first digital corporate bond paid in JPYSC. Oct. 5, 2026, 09:00 PM Tokyo, Japan, October 6th, 2026, Chainwire The landmark issuance brings yen-denominated stablecoin payments into real-world corporate finance, with both interest and principal redemption paid in JPYSC. Startale Japan today announced Startale Bond, Japan's1 first digital corporate bond to pay both interest and principal redemption in a yen-denominated trust-type stablecoin. Simply, the corporate bond pays out to bondholders over its lifecycle in a yen stablecoin rather than through traditional payment rails. The issuance puts JPYSC, a yen-denominated trust-type stablecoin issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank, directly into corporate financing transactions. Both scheduled interest payments and the final principal redemption will be made in JPYSC, marking the first time this structure has been used for a digital corporate bond in Japan. Startale Japan Co., Ltd. is the legal issuer of the Startale Bond. The bond is limited to individual investors and companies in Japan and is not being offered to overseas investors. The issuance is a new use case for JPYSC beyond blockchain transactions, bringing a yen-denominated stablecoin into an established corporate financing structure. By using JPYSC for both interest and principal redemption payments, Startale Japan is demonstrating how stablecoin infrastructure can connect with traditional financial instruments and Japan's existing capital markets. "By bringing finance onchain, we want to create new options for corporate fundraising and individual investment," said Sota Watanabe, CEO, Startale Group Pte. Ltd. "With this bond issuance, we are piloting JPYSC for actual interest and principal redemption payments. Learnings from this initiative will allow us to eventually expand this mechanism to a wide range of businesses across Japan, creating new mechanisms where people can continuously support companies through investment. We will continue pushing this frontier with the hope that, looking back in the years to come, this initiative will be remembered as a major turning point in finance." Stablecoins have largely been associated with crypto trading, payments and remittances. Startale Bond extends their use into corporate finance by making JPYSC the payment mechanism across multiple stages of a bond's lifecycle. That includes both scheduled interest payments and the final repayment of principal. The structure creates a real-world example of how onchain settlement can operate within a conventional financial instrument rather than as a separate blockchain-native product. For Startale, SBI and Japan's wider financial sector, the issuance also establishes a model for how yen-denominated stablecoins could play a role in future capital-market activity. The experience gained through Startale Bond can inform potential applications involving businesses, financial institutions, tokenized assets and other forms of onchain finance. JPYSC was developed through a collaboration between SBI Group and Startale Group. SBI Shinsei Trust Bank issues JPYSC and manages the trust assets backing it, SBI VC Trade serves as the issuance trustor and leads issuance and distribution, while Startale Group is responsible for the technology supporting JPYSC. The Startale Bond brings those pieces together in a corporate financing transaction for the first time, demonstrating how a regulated yen stablecoin can move beyond digital-asset markets and become part of the infrastructure supporting established financial instruments. About JPYSC JPYSC is Japan's first2 trust-type yen-denominated stablecoin, issued by SBI Shinsei Trust Bank. It is designed to track the Japanese yen 1:1 and qualifies as a Type 3 Electronic Payment Instrument under Japan's Payment Services Act. JPYSC was developed through a collaboration between the SBI Group and Startale Group. SBI Shinsei Trust Bank issues the stablecoin and manages the trust assets backing it, SBI VC Trade leads issuance and distribution as the issuance trustor, and Startale Group is responsible for the technology. The aim is to expand its use across remittances, payments, digital securities, and a wide range of other financial transactions. Japan eyes blockchain technology for real-time stock and bond settlement.

Japan eyes blockchain technology for real-time stock and bond settlement. Key points. Table of Contents * Japanese authorities are developing a blockchain infrastructure to enable instantaneous settlement of securities and sovereign debt transactions * A collaborative study group featuring the FSA, Finance Ministry, Bank of Japan, and major financial firms will convene in mid-2026 * Officials anticipate completing a development blueprint by early 2027, with deployment possible in the first half of the 2030s * Present settlement timelines require two business days for equities and one day for government bonds * Japan's central bank has already begun experimental blockchain settlement trials using commercial banking deposits Japanese financial authorities are advancing plans to implement a blockchain-driven settlement framework for equities and sovereign bonds, as detailed in an August 26 report by the Nikkei newspaper. The initiative seeks to establish a payment infrastructure capable of operating continuously, eliminating the current system's lengthy settlement periods. Regulatory collaboration begins mid-2026. Japan's Financial Services Agency, alongside the Ministry of Finance, Bank of Japan, and multiple banking institutions, plans to form a dedicated research committee during the summer months of 2026. This committee will evaluate the underlying blockchain technology framework, determine the distribution of responsibilities between government agencies and private enterprises, and draft an implementation timeline. Authorities expect to finalize a comprehensive development strategy by the first quarter of 2027. As of Wednesday, none of the three government bodies had issued official confirmation regarding the committee's formation. Under existing procedures, Japanese stock transactions complete cash settlement on the second business day following execution. Sovereign bond trades settle within one business day. A blockchain-powered framework would synchronize securities transfers with cash payments, enabling investors to receive and redeploy funds almost instantly. The system's architecture may also facilitate cross-border payment processing, according to the publication. Central bank experiments underway. Japan has already begun exploratory work in this domain. In March, Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda revealed that the institution was conducting settlement experiments utilizing commercial bank deposits on blockchain infrastructure. BOJ Executive Director Kazushige Kamiyama subsequently characterized this initiative as research into tokenized central bank deposits, often referred to as wholesale CBDC. The framework could enable simultaneous transfer of both securities and corresponding payments. These experiments operate independently from Japan's retail digital yen pilot program, which continues in the research stage without any commitment to formal issuance. Corporate sector Leading innovation. Japanese private enterprises have already begun implementing blockchain solutions. Progmat recently transferred more than 452 billion yen worth of tokenized securities to a dedicated blockchain platform constructed on Avalanche infrastructure. SBI Holdings and Startale are developing Strium, an independent blockchain designed for continuous tokenized securities trading. The public test environment is scheduled for 2026. Japan's three largest banking institutions are also collaborating on a unified yen stablecoin infrastructure, targeting operational launch by March 2027. The government's vision extends beyond these corporate initiatives. The proposed system would encompass major Japanese equities, sovereign debt instruments, and central bank currency. Subject to formal authorization, the infrastructure could become operational during the early 2030s. Without official documentation identifying participating organizations and confirming the study group's scope, the projected timeline remains preliminary rather than a confirmed governmental commitment. Startale launches Onchain Finance Kits and Visa card.

Startale launches Onchain Finance Kits and Visa card. Startale expands into onchain financial services. Reading Time: 4 mins read Startale has broadened its focus beyond blockchain infrastructure with the launch of two new products designed to accelerate the adoption of onchain finance among both financial institutions and consumers. The announcements were made at WebX 2026 in Tokyo, where the company introduced Startale Onchain Finance Kits (OFK), a software platform for regulated blockchain financial services, alongside Startale Card, a self-custodial Visa card that enables users to spend digital assets held on the Sony-backed Soneium Layer-2 blockchain. Startale unveiled Onchain Finance Kits for financial institutions and a self-custodial Visa card for consumers, expanding its strategy to connect traditional finance with blockchain-based payments and digital assets. The launches represent the company's latest effort to support both enterprise and retail adoption of blockchain technology through a unified ecosystem. Modular infrastructure for financial institutions. As financial institutions increasingly move from blockchain experimentation to production deployments, many continue to face challenges related to regulatory compliance, infrastructure development, and digital asset integration. Startale said its new Onchain Finance Kits are intended to address these issues by providing modular blockchain infrastructure that organizations can deploy without building core systems independently. The company noted that OFK draws on experience gained through projects including Soneium, JPYSC, Strium, and the Startale App. Those initiatives have enabled Startale to develop expertise across stablecoins, institutional trading, tokenization, settlement, privacy technologies, and blockchain infrastructure. The platform includes modules covering stablecoin infrastructure, wallet services, digital asset management tools, privacy technologies, developer resources, and blockchain settlement capabilities. According to the company, future updates will expand the platform by introducing tokenization infrastructure and custody wallet application programming interfaces (APIs), providing financial institutions with additional resources to launch regulated blockchain-based products. Startale Chief Executive Officer Sota Watanabe said financial institutions had shifted from questioning whether onchain finance would become part of the financial system to determining how they could participate. He added that OFK was developed from the company's years of experience working with enterprises and financial institutions and was intended to help organizations accelerate deployment, simplify implementation, and access new opportunities within the onchain economy. Consumer payments through self-custodial wallets. Alongside its enterprise offering, Startale also introduced Startale Card, a self-custodial Visa card built on Soneium, the Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain developed with Sony Group. The card enables users to spend eligible digital assets at more than 150 million merchants worldwide where Visa is accepted. Unlike many existing cryptocurrency payment cards that require users to transfer assets into custodial accounts before making purchases, the Startale Card allows eligible assets to remain under users' control while continuing to generate yield until they are used for payments. Users also receive cashback rewards denominated in USDSC, the company's U.S. dollar stablecoin. The launch expands the capabilities of the Startale App, which already combines digital asset management, trading, rewards, and Mini Apps within a single platform. Future updates are expected to introduce yield-generating vaults that allow users to earn passive returns while retaining access to assets for everyday spending. Watanabe said the company believed onchain technology should improve everyday financial experiences rather than add complexity. He added that the introduction of Startale Card represented an important step toward transforming the Startale App into a platform where users could manage, grow, and spend their digital wealth through a unified financial experience. Building an integrated onchain ecosystem. The new Onchain Finance Kits provide modular infrastructure for regulated blockchain services, while Startale Card enables users to spend self-custodied digital assets directly through the Visa network. Together, the products demonstrate Startale's strategy of serving institutional clients and retail consumers through complementary blockchain solutions. The company said OFK is intended to help banks, enterprises, and financial institutions launch blockchain products more efficiently, while the payment card focuses on increasing the practical utility of digital assets in everyday transactions. By combining infrastructure for stablecoins, tokenization, blockchain settlement, payments, and consumer finance, Startale aims to strengthen the connection between traditional financial systems and the expanding onchain economy. The company also confirmed that the Startale Card waitlist has opened through the Startale App ahead of its broader public rollout, signaling the next phase of its expansion into blockchain-powered financial services.
