Liquidia drops 4% despite $170M Yutrepia sales beat, misses earnings by 2 cents

Liquidia shares fell more than 4% on Wednesday despite the company's lung disease drug Yutrepia beating second-quarter sales expectations. The treatment generated $170.4 million in sales, growing 31% and surpassing forecasts of $166.4 million. However, the company posted earnings of 74 cents per share, slightly missing expectations of 76 cents. Yutrepia, which launched in June 2025, competes with United Therapeutics' Tyvaso in treating high blood pressure in the lungs. Since launch, Liquidia has received approximately 5,900 new patient prescriptions, with more than 5,000 patients starting treatment. Over 1,100 physicians now prescribe the drug. Liquidia stock has gained 155% year-to-date and ranks second on the IBD 50 list of elite growth stocks.

United Therapeutics reports $333M net income and $7.27 EPS as ralinepag files for FDA approval

United Therapeutics reported second-quarter 2026 results showing sales of $783.3 million, a slight year-on-year decline, whilst net income rose to $333 million and diluted earnings per share increased to $7.27. The company continued share repurchases under its $1.50 billion buyback programme, retiring 5.84% of shares. The biotech firm also published positive phase 3 ADVANCE OUTCOMES data for investigational pulmonary arterial hypertension therapy ralinepag and filed with the FDA. The stronger earnings per share partly reflects the shrinking share count from buybacks. Analysts remain divided on the company's future, with some projecting only 1.2% annual revenue growth and $1.4 billion earnings by 2029, citing concerns about its concentrated portfolio of pulmonary drugs and regulatory uncertainties.

United Therapeutics wins FDA approval for LungFX device amid questions over valuation

United Therapeutics is under scrutiny after the US FDA approved its LungFX device for centralised ex vivo lung perfusion. The stock has shown strong momentum, with a year-to-date return of 10.13% and a one-year total shareholder return of 85.12%, though short-term prices have eased slightly. The company closed at $547.06, against a narrative fair value of $665.23, suggesting an 18% undervaluation. The valuation gap depends on whether LungFX, Tyvaso, and the broader pulmonary and organ platforms can drive future earnings. United Therapeutics' pipeline includes studies in progressive fibrosis, next-generation delivery platforms, and organ manufacturing technologies. However, the company faces risks from potential trial setbacks and drug pricing reforms that could impact profitability and cash flows.

United Therapeutics acquires Thymmune for $140M to advance organ transplant innovation

United Therapeutics Corporation acquired Thymmune Therapeutics for $140 million in cash, with potential additional earn-out payments of up to $160 million tied to clinical and regulatory milestones through 2031. Thymmune develops regenerative thymic cell therapies using human-induced pluripotent stem cells. The acquisition expands United Therapeutics' organ transplantation capabilities. The company focuses on treating life-threatening diseases, including pulmonary arterial hypertension, whilst addressing the global organ shortage through xenotransplantation, 3D bioprinting, and ex vivo lung perfusion technologies. Separately, the FDA granted premarket approval for LungFX, which Leerink Partners described as a regulatory advancement supporting the company's long-term organ manufacturing strategy. Leerink maintains an Outperform rating on United Therapeutics shares.
