Foot Anstey welcomes new trainee solicitors.

Foot Anstey welcomes new trainee solicitors. 8 October 2026 Foot Anstey has welcomed four new trainee solicitors to its Belfast office as the firm continues to invest in developing the next generation of Northern Ireland's legal talent. Ben Lloyd, Kerri Robinson, Ben Donnelly and Sinead Donohoe have joined the firm's two-year training programme, which combines direct experience across a range of practice areas with study at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies (IPLS). Throughout their training contracts the trainees will complete a series of 'seats' across a number of practice areas. This provides them with broad experience and the opportunity to develop their legal and commercial skills while working alongside experienced solicitors across the leading firm. Foot Anstey sponsors the trainees for the duration of their IPLS studies, covering tuition fees and paying a competitive salary. The firm also provides additional tutor support to help future trainees prepare for the Institute's entrance examination. The programme is designed around a small trainee cohort, giving trainee solicitors hands-on experience, early responsibility and access to experienced professionals across the firm. This year's trainees also completed a combined induction with trainees from Foot Anstey's Bristol office, helping build connections across the wider business. As part of the induction, trainees also took part in a growth mindset session with one of the Bristol Bears Women's Rugby team, made possible by Foot Anstey's partnership with the Bristol Bears, exploring the importance of mindset, resilience and continuous learning. Chris Ross, Partner and Head of Foot Anstey's Belfast office said: "We are delighted to welcome Sinead, Ben, Kerri and Ben to Foot Anstey and to support them as they begin the next stage of their legal careers. "Over the next two years, they will gain hands-on experience in litigation, corporate, property and banking and learn from experienced solicitors across the firm. That breadth of experience, combined with the support they receive throughout their training contract, will be central to preparing them for qualification as solicitors. "One of our values is to be 'seriously ambitious', and that applies just as much to the careers of our people as it does to the future of the firm. As Foot Anstey continues to grow, we want our trainees to see a clear career pathway from trainee to qualified solicitor, with the opportunity to build a long-term career at a leading national law firm." Foot Anstey currently has seven trainee solicitors in its Belfast office, including three in the second year of their training contracts. Applications are now open for the firm's next trainee intake starting in September 2027 and will close on Monday 23 October 2026. Those interested in finding out more can also attend the 'Step into Foot Anstey (Northern Ireland)' virtual event on Tuesday 13 October 2026. * By signing up you agree to receive the latest news and updates from Business Eye. Foot Anstey partners with social mobility scheme.

Foot Anstey partners with social mobility scheme. Foot Anstey is partnering with the Colyton Foundation's Your Future Story scheme. (Image: Google Street View) A Southampton law firm has become the first legal partner for a social mobility programme. Foot Anstey is partnering with the Colyton Foundation's Your Future Story scheme, which supports young people from under-resourced backgrounds across the south west. The partnership aims to raise aspirations by offering students a clearer understanding of professional career pathways and access to meaningful workplace experiences. Nick Wakeling, director of the Colyton Foundation, said: "This partnership brings together two organisations with a shared ambition to improve social mobility and broaden access to opportunity. "Foot Anstey's commitment to supporting young people makes the firm a natural partner for Your Future Story, and we're excited about what we can achieve together." The Your Future Story programme helps students connect classroom learning to real-world careers through employer engagement, mentoring, university visits and academic support. Foot Anstey will host insight visits, giving students first-hand exposure to the legal profession and the variety of roles available within a law firm. The focus on employer involvement is designed to address the specific challenges faced by young people in rural and coastal communities, where access to enrichment opportunities and transport links are often limited. Bola Gibson, executive director for responsible business at Foot Anstey, said: "Southern Daily Echo is proud to become the Colyton Foundation's first law firm employer partner and contribute to the important work being delivered through Your Future Story. "Access to professional environments and role models earlier on in education can play an important part in helping young people understand the wide range of opportunities available to them and build aspiration. "We're looking forward to welcoming participants into the firm, sharing our experiences and supporting them as they consider their next steps." The scheme targets high-achieving students; around 90 per cent were eligible for free school meals. In its first year, it supported 127 Year 7 pupils from 32 schools across Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset. A second cohort of 130 students will join the programme this year. The partnership forms part of Foot Anstey's commitment to invest one per cent of its net profits into its Responsible Business programme.

Top-50 firm Macfarlanes has reported flat profit growth in a 'transitional year' - but nonetheless announced a profit per equity partner figure of £3.1 million for the second year running. Unaudited results for the year to 1 April show operating profit up 2.7% to £212.0m on turnover up 4.9% to £389.5m. Damien Crossley, senior partner, described the figures as 'a satisfactory outcome'. Meanwhile as the results reporting season continues, national law firm Foot Anstey announced a 12% profit increase to £18.05m on turnover up 7% to £82m. The firm said the results follow a period of sustained growth with revenue up 53% over the past five years. Managing partner Martin Hirst said: 'Achieving double digit profit growth in an uncertain market with a volatile macro-economic backdrop demonstrates our resilience and the strength of our growth strategy. Our solid performance allows us to continue investing in our people, our sectors, technology and AI. 'Looking ahead, we remain ambitious. We will continue investing in the areas that matter most to ensure we deliver for our clients and our people, while strengthening our position as a leading national mid-market firm.' Law firm tackles landmark Bears partnership.

Law firm tackles landmark Bears partnership. A South West law firm has entered a "groundbreaking" partnership with a leading rugby club that promises to deliver benefits both on and off the pitch. Foot Anstey has been named principal partner of PREM Rugby club Bristol Bears from the 2026/27 season under a multi-year agreement that includes front-of-shirt branding for both the men's and women's teams. The partnership also sees the national law firm become principal partner of the Bristol Bears Foundation, supporting the club's charitable work across the region. Beyond the pitch, Foot Anstey has been appointed Bristol Bears' exclusive legal services provider, delivering a full range of legal advice and support to the club and its players throughout the partnership. Described as one of the most significant commercial partnerships in the club's history, the collaboration is expected to support Bristol Bears' ambitions both on and off the field while further strengthening Foot Anstey's presence across the South West. Martin Hirst, managing parter at Foot Anstey, said: "Our partnership with Bristol Bears is built on a shared belief in the impact individuals can have when they come together as a team. "From our earliest conversations, it was clear this is more than sponsorship, it's about bringing together two ambitious organisations to drive performance, support our communities and create lasting impact. "This reflects how we work as a firm: building strong relationships, working collaboratively and focusing on what really matters to our clients and to the communities around us. "Sport has a unique ability to bring people together and create momentum. "We're excited about what we can achieve, alongside Bristol Bears and the Bristol Bears Foundation, over the coming years." Tom Tainton, chief executive of Bristol Bears, added: "This is a groundbreaking moment for the club and we are delighted to welcome Foot Anstey into the Bears family. "From the beginning of this process, Foot Anstey has been an excellent partner - collaborative, engaging and genuinely excited about using the power of sport to leave a lasting legacy. "Having Foot Anstey's name on our shirts is about far more than a business agreement; it is a statement of intent about our aligned growth journeys. "This authentic partnership represents a shared set of values and a long-term commitment to driving success across our men's, women's and community programmes. "Foot Anstey's support of the Bristol Bears Foundation is particularly significant, enabling us to expand our reach and deepen our impact within the communities we serve. "We look forward to achieving great things together over the coming years." Want your business, product or service to be seen regionally and nationally?
