Requirements
  • Graduation from a college with federally authorized accreditation or registration by New York State with a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy.
  • Two years of experience as a Licensed Pharmacist.
  • For promotional candidates, two years of permanent competitive status as a Pharmacist I.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and direct the operation of the designated registered pharmacy.
  • Train and supervise professional and technical pharmacy staff.
  • Develop and administer pharmacy procedures and supervise the distribution of drugs and medications to patients.
  • Supervise, direct, and control the practice of pharmacy at the County Health facility.
  • Conduct orientation programs for professional and technical staff.
  • Prepare and dispense medically authorized prescription drugs.
  • Review prescriptions for appropriateness for dispensing to patients.
  • Review medical and surgical equipment prescriptions when necessary.
  • Maintain contact with pharmaceutical companies, pharmacists, and health care institutions to maintain current information.
  • Supervise purchasing procedures for all drugs and equipment used in the pharmacy.
  • Interpret federal, state, and local regulations regarding pharmaceutical services and drug distribution.
  • Maintain records relating to the purchase and distribution of controlled substances.
  • Conduct and participate in in-service education with medical personnel.
  • Serve as a consultant to the administrator, program director, physicians, dentists, and other professionals on pharmaceutical matters.
  • Maintain records mandated by federal, state, and local regulations.
