What believers are saying

  • AVK claims a 2GW pipeline, anchored by hyperscale demand and grid bottlenecks.
  • Ireland's December 2025 rules require onsite dispatchable generation, directly favoring AVK's model.
  • PureDC's Dublin site targets full operation by end-2026, creating near-term revenue visibility.

What critics are saying

  • Natural-gas microgrids face methane, HVO, and permitting scrutiny in Ireland through 2026.
  • Competitors like Schneider Electric, Rolls-Royce mtu, and Bloom Energy crowd AVK's market.
  • If regulators ban fossil-fuel backup, AVK's gas-heavy backlog collapses.

What makes AVK unique

  • AVK combines engineering, financing, ownership, and operations through AVK Capital, launched September 2026.
  • Partners Group backed AVK with over $1 billion and majority ownership on August 6, 2026.
  • AVK's 110MW Dublin microgrid proved Europe-first behind-the-meter data center delivery in March 2026.

AVK launches funding arm to finance $1B+ in data center power infrastructure

AVK has launched AVK Capital, a funding arm that will finance, own, and operate on-site power infrastructure for data centre customers. The unit is backed by Partners Group's recent majority stake acquisition, with plans to invest over $1 billion in equity plus debt financing. Under the model, AVK designs power solutions including microgrids, fuel cells, and renewable energy systems, whilst AVK Capital finances and owns the infrastructure. Developers purchase power through long-term agreements without carrying infrastructure costs on their balance sheets. AVK has a 2GW project pipeline and recently launched a 110MW natural gas-powered microgrid at a PureDC data centre in Dublin, with the first two energy centres expected to be operational by the end of 2026.

Partners Group to invest $1B+ in data center power provider AVK amid Europe's AI infrastructure surge

Partners Group has agreed to acquire a majority stake in AVK Power Solutions, a leading European data center power solutions provider. The Swiss private markets firm plans to invest over $1 billion initially to accelerate AVK's growth. UK-based AVK designs, installs and maintains power solutions for data centers, including back-up generators and microgrids. The company has delivered over 20,000 projects and installed approximately 3.5 GW of power to date. European data center capacity is expanding rapidly due to cloud adoption and AI demand, but grid congestion creates connection delays of seven to 15 years in major markets. AVK's on-site power generation helps operators bypass these bottlenecks. Partners Group aims to transform AVK into an infrastructure platform offering Energy-as-a-Service solutions. AVK has a pipeline exceeding 2 GW of power opportunities across Europe. Management will retain a minority stake.

Europe's first microgrid-powered data center goes live in Dublin

A data center outside Dublin has become Europe's first to operate on an independent microgrid, marking a potential shift towards privately powered AI infrastructure. The facility, run by AVK and Pure Data Centre Group, addresses lengthy grid connection delays that have plagued European data centers. The 110-megawatt Dublin site, with projected investment of €1 billion, currently runs on natural gas engines that can switch to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil. Ireland eased its data center energy moratorium late last year, though connection waits persist. The country's data centers consumed 22% of national power in 2024. Europe's microgrid market is expected to grow nearly 10% annually due to aging infrastructure. McKinsey estimates 20% of European data centers now use behind-the-meter solutions, up from 5–10% eighteen months ago, though still trailing the US's 30%.
