Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • General experience working in a health care setting is required.
  • Strong clerical skills, including keyboarding and basic mathematics, are required.
  • Computer knowledge and the ability to use a calculator are required.
  • The role requires the mental ability to conduct interviews, reconcile encounter reports, and conduct audits with better-than-average attention to detail.
  • Experience with medical data entry is preferred.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish proficiency is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Establish and update patient accounts in the computer system using names, aliases, family members, Social Security numbers, and account numbers.
  • Enter charges for self-pay, insurance, and eligibility programs; reconcile charges at the end of each day and maintain error-free daily balance sheets.
  • Determine patient eligibility for special programs, including Methodist Healthcare Ministries and other programs.
  • Assist walk-in patients and visitors and answer telephones by identifying oneself and the clinic name.
  • Use knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP, and eligibility programs, including Methodist Homeless, to verify current insurance status through TMHP and Availity.
  • Schedule patient appointments according to established protocols.
  • Maintain productivity, enter encounter data, maintain logs, and manage referrals and outreach paperwork.
  • Review and update household financial and demographic information annually.
  • Conduct intake interviews for all new patients using a standard registration form and confirm homelessness.
  • Review and update patient registration and demographic information periodically.
  • Assemble required medical and dental record forms for specific patient categories and initiate encounter forms as needed.
  • Follow up on patient no-shows as directed by the provider.
  • Maintain the required uniform, nametag, attire, and compliance with the Employee Policy Handbook.
  • Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Assist clinical teams with patient assessment through observation and notify the clinician in an emergency.
  • Follow the Employee Safety Handbook and maintain agency, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and Joint Commission compliance standards.
  • Participate in the agency’s Quality Improvement Program.
  • Assist with outreach activities and perform other duties assigned by the Director or Supervisor.
