Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required, with the ability and commitment to attain a Child Development Associate credential within two years of hire; alternatively, 12 semester hours, 18 continuing education units, or an equivalent combination totaling 180 clock hours with 1,920 hours of childcare or teaching experience is accepted.
  • An associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a child-related field is accepted.
  • A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a child-related field is accepted.
  • A Child Development Associate certificate with 480 hours of childcare or teaching experience is accepted.
  • Experience teaching, writing lesson plans, and managing a classroom is required.
  • A combination of semester hours and documented teaching experience may satisfy state requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for the classroom and all children in the classroom, including curriculum planning, daily activities, parent communication, licensing, health requirements, and safety compliance.
  • Respond to parents' and children's needs, questions, and concerns effectively and promptly.
  • Plan and execute daily classroom and outdoor activities for the group.
  • Prepare weekly lesson plans, post one copy in the classroom for parents, and submit one copy to the Manager.
  • Supervise meal times, toileting procedures, and indoor and outdoor activities for children in the classroom.
  • Train and constructively utilize assistant teachers.
  • Attend staff meetings, parent conferences, and ongoing training.
  • Clean and organize the Child Care Center as needed and ensure the health, welfare, and safety of children in the assigned group.
  • Plan and execute a developmentally appropriate program aligned with child development principles.
