Requirements
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • One to three years of precision machining experience is required.
  • Knowledge of AX and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets is required.
  • Completion of vocational-technical training or equivalent on-the-job training for specific assignments is expected.
  • Ability to operate and work with CNC machines, turning tools, boring bars, threaders, inside-diameter and outside-diameter tools, end mills, face mills, and boring heads is required.
  • Ability to use precision instruments including calipers, micrometers, height stands, threaded plug gauges, ring gauges, gauge pins, radius gauges, bore gauges, and inside-diameter calipers is required.
  • Ability to use manual and hand equipment including drill presses, Dotco tools, Bridgeport mills, manual lathes, and Dremel tools is required.
  • Ability to stand, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds is required.
  • Close vision, distance vision, and depth perception are required.
  • Ability to follow safe work practices and procedures is required.
Responsibilities
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
  • Machine parts to specifications using lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, and other machine tools.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate machine tools for precision machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units for defects and conformity to specifications using precision instruments.
  • Monitor machine feed and speed during machining processes.
  • Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine fabrication methods and operation sequences.
  • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Check workpieces for proper lubrication and cooling.
  • Diagnose machine-tool malfunctions and determine the need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Exchange technical information with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Dispose of scrap and waste material according to company policies and environmental regulations.
  • Separate scrap waste and related materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal.
  • Evaluate machining procedures and recommend changes or modifications to improve efficiency or adaptability.
  • Support metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly, inspection, and testing using knowledge of machine functions, metal properties, and mathematics.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and keep equipment in like-new appearance according to maintenance plans and established procedures.
