Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school is required, or at least one year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Certified Medical Assistant in a patient-care setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Certification is required.
  • Current certification or registration as a Medical Assistant from an accepted certifying agency is required; equivalent certifications from other agencies may be considered case by case.
  • Ability to demonstrate competency in practice-specific clinical tasks and skills.
  • Ability to comply with infection-control, patient-safety, medical/legal, patient-rights, regulatory, accrediting, and department policies and standards.
Responsibilities
  • Perform patient care under the direction of a physician or Advanced Practice Provider in an ambulatory setting.
  • Gather patient data through interviews and observation.
  • Assist patients and families with preparation for examinations.
  • Assist the physician or Advanced Practice Provider during examinations and procedures.
  • Provide routine treatments and administer approved medication types.
  • Document patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to organizational and department policies.
  • Act as a patient liaison by scheduling and providing information about specialty testing and specialty physician consultations.
  • Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using clinical judgment.
  • Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under provider direction.
  • Participate in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical-outcome process-improvement activities.
  • Communicate professionally with patients and family members and collaborate with administrative and operations staff.
  • Assist the business office with reception, scheduling, and patient discharge as needed.
  • Use supplies efficiently and maintain regular, punctual attendance.
