Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least three years of experience supporting Land Mobile Radio, radio-frequency communications, Giant Voice, or similar telecommunications systems is required.
  • Experience installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing telecommunications and electronic communications equipment is required.
  • Working knowledge of Land Mobile Radio, radio-frequency communications, antenna systems, and associated telecommunications equipment is required.
  • Ability to install, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Land Mobile Radio, Giant Voice, and associated communications systems is required.
  • Knowledge of antennas, feedlines, radio-frequency components, filters, repeaters, base stations, amplifiers, speakers, and related equipment is required.
  • Ability to use radio-frequency, electronic, and telecommunications test equipment for system testing, fault isolation, and troubleshooting is required.
  • Working knowledge of telecommunications cabling, including copper and fiber-optic infrastructure, is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, system drawings, and manufacturer documentation is required.
  • Basic knowledge of Internet Protocol networking and network-connected telecommunications equipment is required.
  • Ability to perform telephone adds, moves, changes, and basic voice-service troubleshooting is required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other telecommunications technicians is required.
  • Ability to safely use ladders and work at heights when installing, inspecting, or maintaining antennas and Giant Voice equipment is required.
  • A valid state driver's license is required.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, are required.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required.
  • The ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods is required.
  • The ability to twist, bend, and squat periodically is required.
  • A current Public Trust security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for the Public Trust clearance at this location.
Responsibilities
  • Install, operate, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair Land Mobile Radio systems and associated equipment.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Land Mobile Radio antennas, radio-frequency components, filters, feedlines, repeaters, base stations, and associated communications equipment.
  • Support Land Mobile Radio backhaul infrastructure and network and telecommunications devices used to interconnect radio systems.
  • Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair Giant Voice systems, including control equipment, amplifiers, speakers, sirens, and associated communications infrastructure.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and operational testing of Land Mobile Radio and Giant Voice systems.
  • Diagnose equipment failures, isolate faults, replace or repair defective components, and restore communications services.
  • Use electronic, radio-frequency, and telecommunications test equipment to troubleshoot and verify system performance.
  • Support inside-plant and outside-plant telecommunications infrastructure, including copper and fiber-optic cabling, pathways, cross-connects, and associated equipment.
  • Install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and repair copper and fiber-optic telecommunications cabling.
  • Perform telephone installations, adds, moves, changes, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Assist other telecommunications technicians with voice, cabling, inside-plant, outside-plant, and related telecommunications requirements.
  • Respond to service requests, system outages, and emergency communications requirements and perform troubleshooting and restoration activities.
  • Maintain equipment inventories, maintenance records, work orders, test results, and other technical documentation.
  • Perform work in accordance with applicable safety, security, technical, and configuration-management requirements.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree or technical training in Telecommunications, Electronics, Radio Frequency Communications, Information Technology, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Relevant military or industry technical training may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Experience with inside-plant and outside-plant infrastructure, copper and fiber-optic cabling, and telephone adds, moves, and changes is preferred.
