Requirements
  • A Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from a Commission on Dental Accreditation-accredited dental school or equivalent is required.
  • Dental license registration is required, and the candidate must be eligible for licensure in New Mexico.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor the comprehensive intake process for gathering dental history, medical history, and dental needs.
  • Review patient referrals conducted by student dentists.
  • Determine and delegate emergency treatments when necessary.
  • Initiate and guide student doctor-patient interactions and assist students in transitioning to clinical practice.
  • Determine whether new patients qualify for the predoctoral program.
  • Evaluate patient needs to determine a comprehensive treatment plan.
  • Monitor individual student development of treatment plans.
  • Model and advise students on professionalism and patient management techniques.
  • Assist Patient Care Coordinators in solving patient-related problems.
  • Regularly review each student's performance where appropriate.
  • Determine individual student needs and related time utilization.
  • Aid in creating the clinic roster, with attention to consistent student-patient pairing and delegating appropriate coverage to other clinics when needed.
  • Report instances of misconduct to the Executive Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs and/or Director of Clinical Education.
  • Assist with calibration of clinical faculty.
  • Ensure clinical protocols are followed in all areas.
  • Ensure infection control compliance.
  • Complete reviews of student activity as required.
  • Oversee the clinical formative and summative examination process.
  • Attend periodic meetings with other Directors or Clinical Practice Leaders.
  • Participate, as applicable, on the Clinical Policy Committee.
  • Participate, as applicable, on the Year 3-4 Student Academic Promotion Review Committee.
  • Ensure clinical issues are resolved and proper administrative support and coverage are provided, delegating or assisting as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous teaching experience is preferred.
  • A Drug Enforcement Administration number is preferred.
  • Board eligibility or certification is preferred.
  • Engagement and familiarity with curriculum development and digital dentistry technology, along with experience in faculty calibration, are preferred.
  • A high degree of interpersonal competency, including professionalism, diplomacy, judgment, and discretion, is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students, faculty, and colleagues is preferred.
  • Ability to organize tasks and delegate as necessary is preferred.
