Requirements
  • Thoughtful problem-solving: you can decompose tricky problems and work towards a clean solution with a clear and accurate understanding of the context.
  • Pragmatic and business-oriented: you care about business impact and prioritize projects accordingly; you understand the balance between craft, speed, and the bottom line.
  • Strive for simplicity: you think critically about the implications of what you're building, aim for the most simple and well-crafted design, and are motivated to eliminate unnecessary complexity.
  • Not ideological about technology: you understand that technologies and programming languages involve tradeoffs, and you can learn new technologies as needed.
  • Empathetic communication: you can clearly explain technical decisions in writing or in real-time discussions and engage thoughtfully with other perspectives.
  • Team player: you enjoy collaborating cross-functionally to accomplish shared goals and help others grow.
  • Curious about AI tools: you are willing to adopt AI tools to work smarter and deliver better results (not required to be an AI expert).
Responsibilities
  • Shape and build the core frameworks that enable reading and writing data in Notion, integrating feedback from internal customers along the way, using tools as required for the job, such as AWS, Postgres, NodeJS, TypeScript, React on the frontend.
  • Design new systems and abstractions that improve developer productivity, reliability, and performance by handling entire classes of problems up-front for product engineers.
  • Solve hard technical challenges such as designing abstractions for efficient traversal of the user content graph, building a system to sync user content for offline use, or scaling our permission model to serve large customers with complex content.
Desired Qualifications
  • Leveraged the features of typed languages (e.g. TypeScript, Flow) to drive code migrations, or have implemented your own data modeling paradigms (e.g. writing your own ORM, sync engine, or query language).
  • Experience with scaling abstractions within a large codebase, and curiosity about how different organizations solve similar problems (e.g. TAO by Meta, Zanzibar by Google).
  • Familiarity with computing pioneers such as Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, Alan Kay, and appreciation for their work.
  • Interest outside of technology, such as in art, history, or social sciences.

Notion provides a centralized workspace that combines notes, documents, project management, and customizable tracking into one platform. It allows teams to write, plan, and share work using a drag-and-drop interface to build pages, add labels and tags, and organize information. An AI-powered Q&A feature helps users get quick answers and centralizes knowledge. The product is offered on a freemium model, allowing anyone to start for free and upgrade as teams grow or need more features. Notion differentiates itself by merging multiple tools—notes, docs, tasks, databases, and collaboration—into one workspace, supported by a global multilingual community and ongoing content, courses, and events. The goal is to help teams stay organized, reduce costs by consolidating tools, and boost productivity across organizations of all sizes.

GIC invests $270M in Notion through employee share sale at $11B valuation

Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC has invested $270 million in Notion through a private tender offer, valuing the AI workspace company at $11 billion. Sequoia Capital and Index Ventures joined GIC in purchasing shares from current and former Notion employees. The transaction provides employee liquidity whilst bringing new institutional capital. Notion removed the one-year vesting cliff on employee options to allow nearly all staff to participate. The investment follows Notion's expansion into Singapore with a regional office opened in mid-2025. Notion's AI-powered features now drive over 50% of annual recurring revenue, which recently surpassed $600 million. The platform serves over 100 million users worldwide across 21 languages. The $11 billion valuation represents a slight increase from Notion's 2022 tender offer at $10 billion.
