Legal AI startup Spellbook has appointed Meltem Kuran-Berkowitz as chief marketing officer. She previously spent five and a half years as head of growth at Deel, overseeing the company's expansion to $1 billion in annual recurring revenue. Kuran-Berkowitz joins as Spellbook scales up following its $50 million Series B funding round in October at a $350 million valuation, led by Khosla Ventures. In March, the company secured a $40 million debt facility to acquire rival generative AI companies. Her early goal is helping Spellbook reach $100 million in revenue by year's end. She opposes using AI to generate marketing content that mimics human interaction, calling AI-personalised cold emails "creepy". Instead, Kuran-Berkowitz plans authentic engagement in communities where potential customers gather, aiming to position Spellbook beyond its redlining tool origins as the default brand for contract management.
Spellbook, an AI contract infrastructure platform used by over 4,500 legal teams across 80 countries, has launched Autonomous Contract Management (ACM), which it describes as the first AI system handling contracts end-to-end. The platform manages the entire contract lifecycle from initial receipt through renewal. Spellbook ACM operates across three workflows: intake, which autonomously pulls contracts from email, Slack and Salesforce, triaging and reviewing against standards; review, where negotiations run in organised workspaces with automatic version tracking; and insight, which stores agreements post-signature and flags renewals whilst monitoring for regulatory changes. The launch addresses persistent inefficiencies in contract management, with a recent Spellbook Labs report showing contract issue rates haven't improved in 20 years despite existing CLM tools. The system is rolling out to select teams, with a waitlist available.

Spellbook, a St. John's-based legal AI software startup, has secured $40 million in debt financing from Royal Bank of Canada to acquire struggling competitors in the generative AI market. The company, officially named Dialog Enterprises Inc., launched one of the first generative AI tools for lawyers in 2022. Spellbook's AI copilot, powered by large language models including OpenAI's GPT-5, helps lawyers and corporations draft, edit and review legal contracts within Microsoft Word. The company tripled its revenue in 2025 and expects to reach $100 million in annual recurring revenues by year-end, according to CEO Scott Stevenson. The firm serves over 4,000 customers across 80 countries, including Nestlé, Dropbox and eBay. It recently signed a two-year partnership with the Canadian Bar Association to provide AI tools to 40,000 legal professionals.
Today we’re announcing our Series B financing led by Keith Rabois at Khosla Ventures, including participation from Threshold Ventures, Inovia, Bling Capital and Moxxie Ventures.
