Responsibilities
Operate a patrol vehicle or walk an assigned shift to observe traffic-law violations, suspicious activities or persons, and disturbances of law and order.
Enforce state and local laws concerning criminal, civil, and traffic offenses, and protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
Interview victims and witnesses; investigate crimes and traffic accidents; conduct searches; and collect evidence.
Respond to radio dispatches, calls, and complaints; issue traffic citations; and serve warrants and summonses.
Provide public assistance, including crime-prevention education, general information, help with lockouts and complaints, assistance to stranded motorists, and escort services.
Make arrests, complete arrest records, testify in court, and write clear and accurate reports that document legal procedures and evidence.
Direct traffic and conduct residential and commercial checks.
Assist other law enforcement agencies when requested or assigned.
Perform basic maintenance of issued equipment.
Participate in in-service and special training programs.
Work outside normal hours when required for on-call or emergency situations.
Perform assigned duties during emergencies or disasters.
Secure and assist with executing search warrants; serve warrants, summonses, and subpoenas; and make arrests.
Prepare investigative reports; process and photograph crime scenes; and take fingerprints.
Investigate criminal activity by interviewing victims and witnesses and interrogating suspects; perform assignment-related duties such as reviewing medical or domestic violence reports and conducting illegal drug and vice operations.

Description
Performs protective service work enforcing laws, investigating criminal activity, ensuring safety of public, collecting evidence, testifying in court, maintaining files and records, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. This position is designated as a safety sensitive position and will be subject to random drug and alcohol screenings under the Town’s Drug-Free and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy. Essential Job Functions

Enforces all State and local laws pertaining to criminal, civil and traffic offenses and ensures the health, safety, and welfare of the public.

Requirements
