  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate is required.
  • Computer literacy is required, including the ability to create and understand spreadsheets, use word-processing software, and learn clinical software systems.
  • The ability to type quickly and accurately is required.
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to obtain basic knowledge of, medical billing, medical coding, and third-party operating procedures and practices is required.
  • The position requires organization, attention to detail, basic bookkeeping skills for balancing accounts, time-management skills, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • The employee must handle highly confidential information and comply with rules and laws regarding client confidentiality.
  • Functional knowledge of business English and medical terminology, good spelling, and basic mathematical skills are required.
  • The employee must be able to communicate effectively in written and oral formats and read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • The employee must pass all required criminal history checks and monthly checks against the OIG, GSA, and other applicable federal and state exclusion lists.
  • A pre-employment drug screen is required.
  • A valid driver's license and personal auto insurance are required for privately owned vehicles used for CCS business, with proof of at least $300,000 liability coverage for bodily injury and $100,000 property-damage coverage.
  • The employee must be able to perform office automation, typing, sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and occasional stooping, kneeling, or squatting, and may lift or move up to 30 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review patient statements.
  • Review delinquent accounts and communicate for collection purposes.
  • Submit claims to insurance companies.
  • Ensure proper coding and data entry of services and perform claims follow-up.
  • Prepare office forms using word-processing software.
  • Administer urinalysis testing forms, provide accurate information to clients, observe testing when necessary, and record pertinent information.
  • Handle multiple phone lines and route calls to the appropriate clinician.
  • Answer inquiries, provide general program information, and provide information and referrals to the public, clients, and community agencies.
  • Order supplies when requested by the Billing Supervisor.
  • Schedule clients, assist with intake paperwork, collect fees, obtain insurance information, and enter data into the computer system database.
  • Maintain agency and clinical form files and new-client file supplies, copy client files, and maintain clinician schedules using the computer scheduling system.
  • Ensure contracted or non-clinical services are entered into the billing system.
  • Inventory office supplies, notify staff when supplies need reordering, receive freight, mail correspondence, and distribute mail.
  • File documents in client files and purge files when the statute of limitations has expired.
  • Interpret client accounts, explain account information, and identify and resolve patient billing problems.
  • Collect, post, and manage patient account payments and prepare deposits and administrative reports.
  • Perform and participate in agency financial controls as directed.
  • Record changes to client information and complete authorizations to share and exchange information.
  • Maintain office equipment and assist staff with troubleshooting problems.
  • Submit reports to the state, GOBHI, and other agencies as required.
  • Gather and distribute requested information, including timesheets, purchase requests, service tickets, and office forms.
  • Open and close the front office to maintain the security of confidential information.
  • Provide backup support for other Office Support and Billing Specialists as needed.
  • Assist in training new Billing Specialists and Office Support Specialists as needed.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
