About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science and 15 or more years of relevant software engineering experience, a master's degree and 12 or more years, or a Ph.D. and 8 or more years building enterprise-scale distributed systems.
  • Eight or more years of hands-on software development experience using Go, Python, or Java to build production microservices, SDKs, and REST or gRPC APIs.
  • Experience architecting and operating multi-tenant cloud-native infrastructure on AWS or GCP, including container orchestration with Kubernetes (EKS/GKE) and event-driven data streaming (Kafka/MSK).
  • Five or more years of core engineering experience in cybersecurity domains, such as cloud security posture management, identity and access governance, role-based or attribute-based access control, threat modeling, or security analytics.
  • Experience building, debugging, or securing LLM applications, agentic frameworks, or Model Context Protocol architectures in production.

Responsibilities

  • Architect enterprise AI defense platforms by owning the technical vision and system design for AI Defense control planes, data planes, policy engines, and real-time posture assessment services to safeguard enterprise AI workflows against adversarial attacks.
  • Write and deploy high-throughput microservices and APIs in Go and Python to process high-volume telemetry streams under strict latency and reliability service-level agreements.
  • Harden agentic AI and model security by designing runtime guardrails, Model Context Protocol policy enforcement, and automated remediation engines to neutralize prompt injection, model jailbreaks, and tool-abuse risks.
  • Drive cross-organizational technical strategy by partnering with Product Management, Security Research, and platform engineering teams across Cisco to establish zero-trust architectures and convert complex customer security requirements into production-ready software.

Desired Qualifications

  • Expertise in AI safety engineering, including prompt-injection defenses, graph-based security models, runtime model observability, and policy-as-code frameworks.
  • Experience leading greenfield 0-to-1 platform initiatives and executing zero-downtime migrations for high-throughput enterprise SaaS.
  • Experience implementing zero-trust network boundaries, secrets management, service meshes such as Envoy or Istio, and automated CI/CD DevSecOps pipelines.
  • Technical mentorship and cross-functional leadership skills, including the ability to build consensus across research, engineering, and executive stakeholders.
  • Active contribution to open-source security tools, agent-to-agent communication protocols, or industry AI safety standards.

About the Company

Cisco

Makes networking gear and security software

Cisco makes the switches and routers that connect offices, data centers, and cloud services, and it also sells cybersecurity tools and Webex video meetings to businesses and governments. It was one of the first companies to sell routers that let different kinds of computer networks exchange data, and in 2000 it briefly became the world's most valuable company. Customers run its network gear, from Wi-Fi access points to AI data center systems, with Cisco software that sets up and secures the network, while its Splunk unit searches computer logs to catch outages and attacks. Cisco earns money from hardware sales, software subscriptions, and support contracts. It was founded in 1984 and is based in San Jose, California.
