Requirements
  • An Early Childhood Education Diploma and Registered Early Childhood Educator professional designation, or a diploma in a Human Services-related field subject to annual Ministry of Education review, are required.
  • Two to three years of direct work-related experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of Early Years Learning rules and guidelines is required.
  • Knowledge of child care programs and services is required to appropriately respond to public requests.
  • Proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Office, is required.
  • Working knowledge of office procedures and equipment is required.
  • Ability to collaborate and integrate programs and services with community and external partners is required.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is required.
  • Strong time-management, organizational, multitasking, communication, interpersonal, and public-relations skills are required.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and professionalism is required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while working with sensitive information is required.
  • Knowledge and respect for Anishinabek cultural values, history, and customs, with the ability to incorporate them into workplace programs and services, is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Medical and tuberculosis testing certification is required.
  • A current original or certified-copy criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening, issued within 30 days, is required.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with planning and implementing quality programs for children ages zero through six and ensure equal access to program participation.
  • Manage the daily operations of the Resource Centre and Toy Lending Library.
  • Develop specific early-learning programs based on the How Does Learning Happen curriculum.
  • Plan and implement playroom activities, parent workshops, seminars, and culturally appropriate family-support programming.
  • Establish and maintain respectful liaisons with children, parents, caregivers, community members, staff, schools, social-service agencies, parent-support groups, and other appropriate services.
  • Support healthy childhood development, parent and family supports, and parents’ and caregivers’ employment and training opportunities.
  • Engage parents and caregivers in discussions and decisions about child development, parenting, nutrition, pre- and post-natal support, and targeted outreach.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and healthy environment for children, parents, caregivers, and visitors.
  • Provide mobile, pop-up, and home services to families lacking transportation or access to programs.
  • Coordinate and provide transportation for community members and families to access programs and services.
  • Network with Family Support Programs in the surrounding geographical area and maintain liaisons with professional organizations.
  • Plan and implement annual workplans with timelines, goals, objectives, outcomes, and professional-development activities.
  • Adjust operational hours, including rotating weekend and evening programming, to meet parent, family, community, and caregiver needs.
  • Collect program and service statistics and prepare quarterly reports for the Ministry of Education.
  • Prepare and publicize monthly calendars of program activities, events, operating hours, and services through social media and community newsletters.
  • Modernize and maintain the inventory of toys, equipment, supplies, and resources to reflect the How Does Learning Happen mandate.
  • Research, develop, and use program software to maintain the resource inventory.
  • Attend relevant meetings, conferences, training, staff meetings, and community-related events.
  • Evaluate programs and services on an ongoing basis and maintain the Child & Family Support Program and Toy Lending Library procedural manuals.
  • Coordinate fundraising activities and minor maintenance and repairs to program equipment, inventory, and physical surroundings.
  • Maintain working relationships with staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Provide leadership and support to new staff.
  • Plan and conduct orientation for new staff, student placements, volunteers, and parents.
  • Provide orientation, supervision, and evaluation for student placements and volunteers.
  • Perform an equal share of joint housekeeping duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Understanding and fluency in Anishinabemowin is a strong asset.
