About the job

Requirements
  • A Master's degree in electrical engineering, control engineering, automation, mechatronics, or a related major with at least three years of work experience, or a PhD degree in one of these fields.
  • Expert knowledge and substantial theoretical and practical experience in electric motor control, servo control, or actuator control, including closed-loop control systems.
  • Strong expertise in permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) and brushless DC (BLDC) motor control, including field-oriented control (FOC), space vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM), current/torque control, velocity control, and position control.
  • Strong experience in servo system design, controller tuning, system identification, and dynamic performance optimization.
  • Experience with advanced control methods such as feedforward control, disturbance rejection, friction compensation, model-based control, adaptive control, observer-based control, or vibration suppression.
  • Good understanding of robotic joint module hardware, including motors, gearboxes/transmissions, encoders, bearings, actuator electronics, and mechanical loads.
  • Good understanding of how gear ratio, backlash, friction, stiffness, inertia, transmission efficiency, and mechanical resonance affect actuator control performance.
  • Experience implementing real-time control algorithms on digital signal processors (DSPs), microcontrollers (MCUs), field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), or other embedded control platforms.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink or other system modeling and simulation tools.
  • Programming proficiency in C/C++, Python, and/or MATLAB.
  • Fluent English communication skills, orally and in writing.
  • Experience in project work and strong technical documentation and scientific writing skills.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct research, pre-development, and patent filing for innovative control technologies for robotic joint modules and electromechanical actuators.
  • Develop advanced motor and actuator control algorithms for single-joint robotic modules.
  • Design and optimize torque/current, velocity, and position control loops for high-performance robotic actuators.
  • Develop control strategies to improve torque density, dynamic response, positioning accuracy, stability, and energy efficiency in robotic joints.
  • Research disturbance rejection, friction compensation, feedforward control, parameter identification, and model-based control for robotic joint modules.
  • Develop and validate torque-control and force-related control functions for robotic actuators, including impedance/compliance control where appropriate.
  • Analyze how gearboxes/transmissions, friction, backlash, stiffness, inertia, load variation, and mechanical resonance affect joint control performance.
  • Model, simulate, and experimentally validate motor–transmission–sensor–controller–load systems.
  • Implement and validate control algorithms on real-time embedded platforms; conduct prototype testing and optimize performance.
  • Work with mechanical and electrical engineers to optimize joint hardware and control as an integrated system.
  • Work with the corporate research hub in Renningen, Germany, on project activities and competence development.
  • Work with business units to provide competitive technology solutions and help transform them into products.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in robot joint or robotic actuator control is a strong plus; experience in industrial servo systems, precision motion control, aerospace actuators, electric drives, or other electromechanical systems is also welcomed.
  • Experience with torque sensing, force sensing, impedance control, compliant control, or high-performance robotic actuators is a plus.

About the company

Bosch Home Comfort makes heating, cooling and hot-water equipment for homes, commercial buildings and industrial users. Its portfolio combines electric heat pumps with gas-fired boilers and hybrid systems, giving customers different ways to control building temperatures and supply hot water. The business sells equipment through its brands' sales networks, with products adapted to regional building needs and energy requirements. Its inverter-driven heat pumps adjust compressor output to match demand rather than running constantly at full power. The Bosch business unit was formed through the merger of Bosch and Buderus heating activities in 2004 and is headquartered in Wetzlar, Germany.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Heat-pump researchers gain human-factors experience: Bosch's Wernau team tests how concealed fans change perceived noise.
  • Retrofits expand the addressable market: Bosch's IDS Ultra fits most existing air-to-air systems.
  • Investment funds technical work: February 2026 reporting puts Bosch Home Comfort's 2025 investment near €200 million.

What critics are saying

  • Demand remains cyclical: Bosch's February 2026 report says Germany's heating market shrank 14% in 2025.
  • Sales coordination stays fragmented: Bosch retains separate brand sales contacts and discount schemes.
  • Facilities work extends beyond normal shifts: Bosch's advertised Facility Engineer role requires responding to off-shift emergencies.

What makes Bosch Home Comfort unique

  • Regional identities stay distinct: Bosch retains Buderus and licenses the Hitachi and YORK names for its HVAC portfolio.
  • Acoustics gets specialized testing: Bosch's Wernau heat-pump laboratory measures noise with 19 microphones.
  • Cold-climate heating reaches below freezing: Bosch's IDS Ultra maintains full heating capacity at 5°F.
