Requirements
  • Associate degree from an approved Respiratory Care program; candidates licensed before December 31, 2008 may instead hold a certificate of completion from an approved Respiratory Care program.
  • Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Current Basic Life Support/HealthCare Provider certification.
  • Advanced Life Support certification as appropriate for the unit and site.
Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate competency in respiratory therapeutics and in using ventilators, pulmonary diagnostics, physiologic monitors, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and other equipment required for respiratory care.
  • Maintain accurate and precise documentation.
  • Apply analytical reasoning, patient-care management skills, and technical expertise.
  • Communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team.
  • Perform quality control and maintenance of arterial blood gas analyzers, specimen collection, and blood-gas and acid/base analysis.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with organizational policies and applicable standards.
  • Comply with organizational policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • Maintain active membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).
