Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • Three years of hands-on experience performing confined space entries and operating, maintaining, designing, constructing, or regulating water utility systems is required.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
  • A valid Class A commercial driver's license is required, or the ability to obtain one within 180 days of employment.
  • One of the following is required: Texas Class B Water license or higher, Texas Class B Wastewater license or higher, Texas Class B Distribution license, or Texas Class III Collection license.
  • The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality sponsor requirements require either 60 hours of classroom instructional experience or completion of approved instructor training in Methods of Teaching or Effective Instructional Techniques and Instructional Design and Evaluation or Organizational and Use of Training Materials.
  • Applicants must be able to attain the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality sponsor requirements within six months of employment if they do not already meet them.
  • An Associate's degree with five years of specified confined-space and water-utility experience may be considered as an equivalency.
  • A High School Diploma or General Educational Development credential with seven years of experience performing confined space entries and operating, maintaining, designing, constructing, or regulating water utility systems may be considered as an equivalency.
  • Applicants must be subject to a criminal history investigation and institutional verification of credentials and other required information.
Responsibilities
  • Perform training for specialty, skilled, and semi-skilled courses, specifically Confined Space Entry within the Water/Wastewater program.
  • Use knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success and course-instruction effectiveness.
  • Provide online and/or classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and technical assistance in a specialty area.
  • Use a variety of media to present course material.
  • Assist in creating new content or updating existing curriculum content when necessary to meet learner needs.
  • Maintain technical competence and skills.
  • Provide instruction in proper confined space entry procedures and serve as a subject matter expert regarding confined spaces.
  • Deliver, set up, and maintain the confined space entry trailer and all safety equipment within the trailer.
