Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Immunology, Cell Biology, or Clinical Laboratory Science from an accredited institution is required.
  • Active and good standing American Society for Clinical Pathology or American Medical Technologists certification is required.
  • A minimum of one year of related generalist clinical laboratory experience in chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills, including word processing and laboratory information systems.
  • Strong understanding of good laboratory practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Perform technical laboratory functions including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and molecular testing while maintaining turnaround time.
  • Report test results according to clinic protocols and alert providers, nurses, or staff as needed.
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining patient test-result records.
  • Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency-testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Adhere to laboratory quality-control policies and document quality-control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or result reporting, correct them when possible, or immediately notify the appropriate supervisor, consultant, or director.
  • Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Assist with creating, implementing, and maintaining departmental protocols, methods, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, including setting up, maintaining, calibrating, and cleaning medical laboratory equipment.
  • Assist with training new laboratory personnel.
  • Ensure training content, safety practices, and role development align with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including requirements from the Food and Drug Administration, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, and College of American Pathologists.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
