  • Support responses to potential breaches, screening matches, regulatory enquiries, and control failures by coordinating evidence, investigation support, voluntary disclosures or regulator reporting, and remediation with Legal and accountable leaders.
  • Develop risk-based monitoring, metrics, and second-line assurance, using data and approved technology to strengthen screening, alert management, risk visibility, and reporting while maintaining human review and accountability.
  • Build capability through targeted advice, training, and practical guidance for high-risk roles and teams, ensuring lessons from incidents and assurance are reflected in risk assessments, controls, systems, and learning.
Desired Qualifications

  • Experience using data, screening systems, or approved technology to improve alert management, monitoring, assurance, and trade compliance reporting.

About the company

Rio Tinto is a global mining and metals company that extracts and processes minerals to supply the world with key materials. Its offerings include iron ore used to make steel, low-carbon aluminium for electric cars and smartphones, copper for wind turbines, electric vehicles, and water pipes, borates for crop growth, and titanium for paints. The company operates by mining ore and then refining and transforming it into usable metals and minerals for various industries. Compared with its competitors, Rio Tinto emphasizes a broad portfolio across multiple minerals and metals and highlights efforts to reduce carbon in its aluminium products, aiming to lower the environmental impact of its supply chain. The overall goal is to provide the materials the world needs while advancing lower-carbon production to support sustainable energy, transport, and infrastructure.

What believers are saying

  • First-half 2026 EBITDA rose 28% to $14.8 billion, driven by copper and prices.
  • Rio Tinto started commissioning Quebec's $1.5 billion smelter expansion in May 2026.
  • Sandvik autonomous drilling trials and Chinese equipment purchases lower costs across iron ore operations.

What critics are saying

  • Nemaska slowed construction in March 2026; contractor headcount was cut, delaying lithium cash flow.
  • IOC completed staff reductions in August 2026, signaling weak Labrador operations and cost pressure.
  • Lithium execution now hinges on 2028 production; another delay would undermine Arcadium's thesis.

What makes Rio Tinto unique

  • Rio Tinto dominates iron ore with automated Pilbara mines and Perth remote operations.
  • Its Quebec lithium platform spans Nemaska, Whabouchi, and Galaxy, building vertical integration.
  • AP60 low-carbon aluminium and ELYSIS give Rio Tinto premium decarbonized metal optionality.

Fieldstone Bio joins Rio Tinto and Founders Factory mining accelerator after $2M US energy award

Fieldstone Bio, a synthetic biology company based in Woburn, Massachusetts, has been selected for the Mining Tech Accelerator run by Founders Factory with Rio Tinto. It is one of five companies in the four-month program and receives its first backing from the mining industry. Participants receive investment and operational support. They work with Rio Tinto's technical experts and use its facilities in Western Australia to adapt their technology for mines. Fieldstone's platform combines synthetic biology, hyperspectral imaging, and data analysis to measure elements in geological samples. It aims to give drill teams results in days rather than the one to two months labs can take. In June, the US Department of Energy awarded $2 million to Fieldstone, TerraCore, and MIT to develop rapid characterisation of critical minerals on drill cores.

Rio Tinto chair: Geopolitical risk must move beyond the 'after-dinner speaker

Dominic Barton, strategic counsellor to Eurasia Group and chair of Rio Tinto, says companies must integrate geopolitical risk into core business operations rather than treating it as a side concern. Speaking after US President Donald Trump imposed 50% tariffs on some Canadian goods, Barton noted the breakdown of assumptions about international institutions and free trade. Barton, a former McKinsey leader and Canadian ambassador to China, argues CEOs need to spend more time understanding foreign governments. He says geopolitics should inform decisions about balance sheets, debt levels, supply chain security, and data management. Rio Tinto has adjusted its approach to China, significantly increasing purchases of Chinese equipment. "It's more expensive than some of the traditional Western suppliers. But it's better," Barton said.

Sandvik partners with Rio Tinto to integrate autonomous drilling systems across Australian mines

Sandvik has partnered with Rio Tinto to integrate its i-series surface drill rigs with Rio Tinto's Autonomous Drilling System. The collaboration will combine Sandvik's AutoMine automation technology with Rio Tinto's remote operations expertise to improve safety, productivity and system interoperability in open-pit mining. Development will be managed through Rio Tinto's Perth Operations Centre, beginning with testing at Sandvik's facility in Finland. Field trials will follow at Rio Tinto's Western Australian operations to evaluate performance against production targets. The project leverages existing autonomous infrastructure at Rio Tinto's iron ore sites and aligns with both companies' expansion plans, including Sandvik's recent copper mine equipment orders and Rio Tinto's $1.5 billion Quebec smelter expansion, due to complete by end-2026.
