Four Seasons Maldives opens private wellness island with $120 sun therapy. By Iuliia Tore / Sep 21, 2026 / 3 minutes of reading Table of Contents Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa has opened a dedicated wellness island where guests can take a traditional banana-leaf sunbath, receive treatments in overwater suites and follow personalized naturopathy programs reached by boat from the main resort. ŪRJĀ Naturopathy Island combines naturopathic practices with wellness assessments and treatments including heliotherapy, mud therapy, acupuncture, sound healing and yoga. One of its most unusual offerings is heliotherapy, which uses controlled exposure to natural sunlight. At ŪRJĀ, the treatment can involve herbal or mineral preparations applied to the skin before guests are wrapped in fresh banana leaves and exposed to warmth under professional supervision. READ MORE: Sun therapy costs up to $180. Heliotherapy is priced at US$120 for a 30-minute session and US$180 for 60 minutes, according to details released by the resort's wellness team. Dr Anand Prayaga, director of ŪRJĀ Naturopathy Island, said the treatment draws on the traditional naturopathic practice of a banana-leaf sunbath. The level of warmth and duration are adjusted according to the individual guest and intended treatment. However, Prayaga also stressed that research into banana-leaf heliotherapy remains at an early stage and that Four Seasons does not present the practice as a cure or make broad claims about detoxification. Every guest begins with a naturopathy consultation covering factors such as sleep, stress, digestion, posture and body composition. Optional assessments include micronutrient scanning, iris diagnosis and postural mapping. Four personalized wellness pathways. The program is organized around four pathways: Rest and Rebalance, Cleanse, Nourish and Reconnect. Treatments can be combined with nutrition, movement, hydrotherapy and bodywork, while other experiences include acupuncture, fasting, yoga therapy, sound healing and a ritual known as the Vagus Reset. The centre also offers an open-air Night Spa Ritual designed around the island setting. Four Seasons says the concept is intended to move beyond conventional spa treatments toward longer, individualized wellness journeys. A dedicated four-night ŪRJĀ Renewal package includes a 60-minute naturopathy consultation and iris diagnosis, a two-hour Rest and Rebalance Ritual and a 60-minute AION A facial for two guests, alongside accommodation, breakfast and airport transfers. A wellness island reached by dhoni. ŪRJĀ is separate from the main Kuda Huraa resort and is reached from the jetty aboard a small traditional Maldivian dhoni. The island includes overwater treatment suites and open-air spaces designed to incorporate the surrounding ocean into the wellness experience. Some treatments use AION A, a mineral powder containing calcium carbonate and silicic acid that was discovered in Switzerland by naturopath and artist Emma Kunz in 1942. The opening adds another wellness-focused experience to Four Seasons' Maldives portfolio as luxury resorts increasingly move beyond conventional massage and beauty menus toward personalized longevity, nutrition and naturopathy programs.
