Requirements
  • Current certification in the State of Florida as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) credential, or one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Understanding of the social, psychological, and special needs of older adults.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English understandably and follow written and oral instructions carefully.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Good general health and emotional stability.
  • Ability to manage and cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Ability to work closely with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people.
  • Ability to maintain professional competence through programs, seminars, and training.
  • Willingness to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and temporarily in other positions when necessary.
  • Ability to handle department equipment according to standard procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with residents, staff, and visitors with flexibility, personal integrity, sensitivity, and discretion.
  • Ability to report all accidents and incidents to a supervisor, regardless of severity.
  • Ability to attend and participate in scheduled in-service classes and on-the-job programs.
  • Ability to honor residents' rights policies.
  • Ability to maintain and protect the privacy and confidentiality of protected health information in accordance with HIPAA medical privacy policy.
  • Ability to perform tasks safely, sanitarily, and efficiently according to established procedures.
  • Ability to follow the facility safety program.
  • Ability to report exposure to blood or visibly bloody body fluids to a supervisor during the applicable shift.
  • Familiarity with universal precautions, including frequent hand washing and glove use.
  • Understanding that the position includes Category II tasks that may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
  • Ability to understand and use universal precautions and available protective measures for Category I tasks.
  • Ability to perform all job functions without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
  • Successful completion of screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with planning and implementing activities for Skilled Nursing Facility residents.
  • Help design programs that encourage socialization, entertainment, relaxation, and fulfillment.
  • Coordinate therapeutic, educational, religious, and recreational activities appropriate to residents' needs and interests.
  • Work closely with the Activities Director under close supervision.
  • Work closely with other facility staff as a team member.
  • Assist in planning, developing, organizing, evaluating, and directing the activity program.
  • Coordinate, direct, and conduct planned activities, adapting them to resident interest and participation.
  • Supervise multiple activities for smaller groups in an area.
  • Communicate changes in residents' physical or mental state that may affect interactions with residents or employees.
  • Assist residents with mobility issues as required for activities.
  • Protect residents' privacy and property.
  • Attend staff meetings as directed.
  • Assist residents with the voting process, including registration and absentee ballots.
  • Assist residents in attending religious services.
  • Coordinate and supervise outdoor activities.
  • Assist with volunteer orientation and encourage participation in activities.
  • Attend or conduct appropriate in-service sessions as directed by the Activities Director or Administrator.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
