Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalence plus three or more years of experience working on manual, vertical, and horizontal machines through all phases of turning and milling in a machine shop environment is required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Computer Numerical Control experience is desired.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and an understanding of marine propulsion systems are required.
  • The employee must pass a Shielded Metal Arc Welding tack welding test to become American Bureau of Shipping certified.
  • Knowledge of ship terminology, safety rules, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration and American Bureau of Shipping standards is required.
  • Proficiency in precision alignment principles for rotating machinery and in reading precision measuring tools is required.
  • The ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions or plans is required.
  • The ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and layouts is required.
  • Knowledge of the safe operation and use of hand and power tools is required.
  • The ability to perform basic arithmetic using all units of measure is required.
  • The ability to read and use standard SAE and metric measuring devices is required.
  • Regular attendance and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays, are required.
  • The employee must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment and work at heights of at least 50 feet, in confined spaces, and in extreme heat and cold.
  • The employee must be able to frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Install propulsion machinery, sea valves, steering gear, anchor handling equipment, pumps, and ventilating equipment.
  • Plan, fabricate, and install foundations.
  • Set up and operate a variety of machine tools.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools and maintain industrial machines and equipment.
  • Operate metalworking machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders, to machine parts to specifications.
  • Lay out and verify part dimensions using precision measuring and marking instruments.
  • Assemble parts into completed units using jigs, fixtures, and hand and power tools.
  • Secure equipment to the deck and attach fuel, cooling, or lubricating lines.
  • Clean, lubricate, and maintain machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Flag cranes, calculate weights, and rig lifts as required.
  • Comply with company, federal, state, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • May indirectly supervise and train subordinates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
