BitGo's national charter and $2.59B NYSE debut boost bank interest in crypto custody

BitGo, a crypto custody and digital asset infrastructure company, has seen stronger bank interest since it won an unconditional national trust charter in December and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in January at a $2.59 billion valuation. Frank Wang, its head of North America fintech sales, said at the Money20/20 conference in Las Vegas that interest from financial institutions is "steadily increasing." It received two requests for proposals from large institutions on Tuesday alone. Banks can use BitGo's software to run wallets and custody assets themselves, or have BitGo Bank & Trust hold the assets. Wang called the latter "an easy button" for community and regional banks. The national charter also replaces state-by-state money transmitter licences, which Wang said can be costly.

Kalshi pushes deeper into crypto derivatives with bitcoin-backed margin loans.

Kalshi pushes deeper into crypto derivatives with bitcoin-backed margin loans. Kalshi is doubling down on its bid to become the regulated U.S. home for crypto perpetual futures, pairing a new bitcoin-backed lending arrangement with digital-asset custodian BitGo alongside a distribution deal that will put its perpetual contracts in front of Webull's more than 6 million customers. Bloomberg first reported Wednesday that customers of Kalshi Prime, the company's U.S.-registered futures commission merchant, will be able to borrow against digital assets held at BitGo and use the proceeds to fund margin positions on perpetual futures traded on Kalshi's main exchange. Under the tri-party structure, loans will be issued by Kalshi Katalyst, a lending affiliate of Kalshi Prime, and secured against assets held at BitGo Bank & Trust, the firm's federally chartered trust bank. Eligible collateral will include bitcoin, ethereum and stablecoins deemed compliant with the GENIUS Act, with additional custodians expected to join Kalshi's network over time. Prime CEO Jeff Bandman told the outlet the product was designed with crypto-native traders in mind, including those already active on unregulated offshore perpetuals venues and large holders who would rather not sell their bitcoin to fund futures positions. He also pointed to unexpected demand from businesses, such as Latin American firms that run their operations on U.S. dollar stablecoins. The move targets a segment where the company has acknowledged a structural disadvantage against Polymarket, its offshore, blockchain-based rival, which has long catered to crypto whales and trading firms that prefer to keep their capital in digital assets. The two platforms have been racing to build out perpetuals since the spring. Webull debuting crypto-linked perpetual futures via Kalshi rails. The BitGo arrangement landed a day after Webull announced Tuesday that eligible U.S. customers will be able to trade perpetual futures on its platform beginning in November, starting with bitcoin and a handful of other crypto assets. The contracts will trade on KalshiEX LLC, Kalshi's CFTC-regulated designated contract market, and clear through Kalshi Klear LLC, its derivatives clearing organization. Access will initially be limited to customers already approved for futures trading through existing Webull Futures accounts, with broader availability expected before year-end. Webull Group President and U.S. CEO Anthony Denier said in the company's release that perpetual futures saw more than $90 trillion in global volume in 2025 and that American investors should be able to access them through a regulated platform. These two announcements extend a product buildout for the company, which secured CFTC clearance for the first U.S.-regulated bitcoin perpetual in late May and went live with the contract in early June, before adding gold and silver perpetuals in September and a US500 stock index perpetual earlier this month. The expansion comes amid mounting state-level legal pressure, with Utah becoming the latest state to sue Kalshi on Monday over what it alleges is illegal sports gambling, following New York's similar action against Polymarket last month.

Evernorth partners with Ripple, Coinbase, BitGo, and Kraken for $648M XRP Treasury.

Evernorth partners with Ripple, Coinbase, BitGo, and Kraken for $648M XRP Treasury. * Carrillo J.M. * Published: October 14, 2026 * 2:11 pm * Updated: October 14, 2026 * 2:11 pm Table of Contents * XRP Treasury: Evernorth plans to deploy part of its 473 million XRP treasury, worth about $648 million, through institutional strategies beginning in the fourth quarter. * Key Partners: Ripple, Kraken, Coinbase, and BitGo have been selected as the company's first counterparties for the treasury deployment initiative. * Growth Strategy: The firm aims to generate earnings, increase XRP holdings per share, and eventually expand into lending and onchain DeFi opportunities on the XRP Ledger. Evernorth has outlined plans to begin deploying its substantial XRP treasury through institutional strategies in the fourth quarter, marking a new phase for the company shortly after its Nasdaq debut. The announcement identified Ripple alongside cryptocurrency platforms Kraken, Coinbase, and BitGo as the first counterparties involved in the initiative. According to the company, Evernorth currently holds 473 million XRP, valued at roughly $648 million based on current market prices. The move comes just two days after the firm started trading on Nasdaq under the ticker XRPN following its deSPAC merger with Armada Acquisition Corp. II. Institutional strategy begins to take shape. Company founder and CEO Asheesh Birla said Evernorth is focused on putting its treasury assets to work rather than leaving them idle. He described Ripple, Kraken, Coinbase, and BitGo as some of the strongest institutional counterparties in the industry and confirmed that Evernorth will begin its deployment efforts with those partners. The company stated that its objective is not simply to accumulate additional XRP. Instead, the strategy seeks to generate earnings and increase XRP holdings on a per-share basis. Although the announcement detailed the overall direction of the initiative, it did not disclose how much XRP would be deployed through these institutional strategies. New investment leadership and future expansion. The treasury effort at Evernorth is being led by chief investment officer Hugo Jeandesboz, who previously served as co-chief investment officer at Coinbase Asset Management. Jeandesboz said the approach involves building a treasury strategy, establishing a risk framework, and selecting counterparties appropriate for a publicly listed company. Beyond the initial deployment plans, Evernorth also intends to explore lending opportunities and onchain DeFi strategies on the XRP Ledger as those capabilities become available. The company indicated that expanding into these areas could provide additional avenues for generating returns from its holdings. For Evernorth, the treasury initiative represents an effort to create value from existing assets rather than relying solely on balance-sheet accumulation. As new XRP Ledger features become available, Evernorth expects to broaden its approach, and Evernorth appears positioned to play a more active role in institutional XRP treasury management. Market debut and share performance. The announcement arrived during a notable week for Evernorth. Shares opened at $16.68 on Monday and remained relatively stable following the market debut. The stock closed Tuesday at $16.48 before edging higher to $16.60 in after-hours trading. Later Wednesday, Evernorth was scheduled to ring the Nasdaq closing bell, adding another milestone to its public market launch.
