Requirements
  • At least six months of experience facilitating instruction, with an emphasis on youth requiring academic intervention.
  • Experience teaching and facilitating academic instruction.
  • Knowledge of youth program group or classroom management.
  • Ability to implement engaging academic activities and promote healthy study habits.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of the age-appropriate curriculum for the assigned subject in accordance with Hawaii Department of Education standards.
  • Experience engaging middle and high school youth in recreation, leadership development, service learning, civic engagement, college and career pathways, and other personal development areas.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Windows 10 or later, Canva, and other software applications as required.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Current certification in language arts or mathematics education is preferred.
  • Ability to complete CPR, AED, and First Aid certification; training is available upon hire.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive background screening, including criminal and sex offender checks.
  • Completion of mandatory Praesidium child-protection training and reporting of concerns.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and educational activities that promote academic success and align with the program model and goals.
  • Create and implement methods to engage students in academic enrichment, promote positive learning habits, and address academic learning loss.
  • Create a positive work and learning environment for staff and program participants.
  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives to support academic quality and student success.
  • Communicate consistently and professionally with participants, parents when applicable, coworkers, and associated program contacts such as Hawaii Department of Education and Department of Human Services contacts.
  • Assist in supervising and guiding junior staff members by providing mentorship and support as needed.
  • Research and develop creative programs, workshops, activities, and engagement methods focused on teen and youth development.
  • Suggest program improvements, participate in staff meetings, and provide feedback on program development.
  • Assist with coordinating events and activities that promote student engagement and motivation.
  • Facilitate programming that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes teens and youth in an inclusive environment.
  • Apply knowledge of YMCA mission, core values, purpose, goals, policies, and standards to support program quality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • General office operations experience.
