About the job

Requirements
  • You have built and shipped maintainable software inside a product-engineering organisation and understand how strong product and engineering teams discover, prioritise, build, test and operate software.
  • Experience in power systems, utilities, grid technology or adjacent critical infrastructure is strongly preferred; you can earn credibility with domain experts and understand why correctness matters.
  • You are fluent in Python, SQL, APIs, data pipelines, cloud systems and modern developer tooling, and you can investigate, prototype, debug and ship without waiting for another team.
  • Experience with platforms such as Databricks and with AI-native developer and agentic tooling is valuable, alongside rigorous approaches to evaluation, security and correctness.
  • You observe how people actually work, ask the questions that reveal the root problem, and distinguish a one-off request from a need worth solving repeatedly.
  • You can translate technical user needs into useful tools and know when to build, iterate, simplify or stop.
  • You have driven adoption of new tools or workflows with busy technical teams under live delivery pressure, using credibility and evidence while holding a clear line on agreed standards.
  • You communicate clearly with hands-on engineers, utility leaders and executives, and connect technical work to customer and commercial outcomes.
  • You have high agency, low ego and sound judgement; you work as a peer, take ownership of difficult work and create momentum across functional boundaries.
  • You are willing to travel regularly, spend meaningful time with customers and the U.S. team, and treat direct observation as primary engineering input.
Responsibilities
  • Embed with power engineers and the go-to-market team, map real workflows and constraints behind strategic utility work, and identify the highest-leverage problems for tooling to solve.
  • Be the first serious user of new FDE and AI tooling on live work; test its usefulness, correctness, reliability and fit with the realities of critical infrastructure.
  • Turn direct evidence into clear requirements, priorities and acceptance criteria; work tightly with Product and Engineering as tools are designed, built and improved.
  • Investigate data, write Python and SQL, build prototypes and integrations, debug workflows, and step into high-priority customer work when required.
  • Onboard the U.S. team, train and support users in real engagements, establish the new operating cadence, measure adoption and outcomes, and intervene when the team slips back into lower-leverage ways of working.
  • Define how the tools should be used, the quality bar for AI-assisted work, when human review is required, and how lessons and failure modes are captured.
  • Turn recurring field needs into reusable workflows, product capabilities and playbooks so every engagement makes the next one faster and better.
  • Help leadership define engagement criteria, decision rights, handoffs and measures of success based on evidence from the field.
  • Build prototypes, integrations or production-quality software when that is the fastest path to learning and impact.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in power systems, utilities, grid technology or adjacent critical infrastructure is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with platforms such as Databricks and with AI-native developer and agentic tooling is valuable.
  • Experience as a Forward Deployed Engineer, customer-embedded product engineer or technical lead is helpful.

About the company

Gridsight is an AI-powered capacity-management platform for electric utilities that converts fragmented network data into a Foundational Grid Model tailored to each utility, so operators can identify where latent capacity exists and connect new load without building new infrastructure. It blends electrical physics with AI agents to support real-time hosting capacity, solar export management, and distribution planning. Unlike generic grid software, Gridsight delivers a utility-specific model that directly informs where and when to add capacity, enabling dynamic control over rooftop solar exports and faster planning. Its customers include Endeavour Energy, Xcel Energy, and United Illuminating. The company aims to expand its US footprint while continuing growth in Australia and other markets, supported by fundraising to accelerate expansion.

What believers are saying

  • Endeavour Energy's rollout unlocked 600 MW and over $100 million for customers.
  • Xcel Energy and United Illuminating are named U.S. customers, proving expansion traction.
  • US electricity demand from data centers and EVs expands Gridsight's addressable market fast.

What critics are saying

  • GridCARE's May 2026 $64 million Series A directly attacks Gridsight's data-center wedge.
  • Siemens, Schneider Electric, and GE Vernova already sell broader utility digital-twin suites.
  • Gridsight's 67-person team faces lengthy utility sales cycles and implementation dependence.

What makes Gridsight unique

  • Endeavour Energy doubled solar export limits in 2026 using Gridsight's live grid model.

Gridsight raises $26M Series B led by Insight Partners to expand AI grid software to US

Gridsight has raised $26 million in a Series B round led by Insight Partners to expand its grid-capacity software into the US market. The company's AI-driven platform identifies unused capacity in existing electricity grid infrastructure, enabling utilities to connect new demand from data centres, EV charging, and electrification without lengthy build-outs. Insight Partners leading the round, rather than a climate-focused fund, signals grid-capacity software is increasingly viewed as an enterprise infrastructure opportunity beyond climate tech. This positioning could influence future valuations and investor access. Grid capacity constraints are emerging as a major bottleneck for both energy transition and AI-driven electricity demand growth, establishing software solutions as a distinct investment category alongside physical infrastructure expansion.

Gridsight raises $36M to accelerate US expansion plan. September 2, 2026 AI-powered capacity management platform Gridsight has raised $36 million in Series B funding to accelerate its US expansion while supporting continued growth in Australia. US electricity demand is rising after 15 years of stagnant growth, driven by AI data centers, EV uptake, and electrification. But new construction alone cannot meet this growing demand, with regulators shifting incentives toward better use of existing grid capacity. The opportunity lies within existing networks, where Gridsight says much as three-quarters of grid capacity goes unused on average. "The grid's capacity challenge is not uniform," Gridsight co-founder and CEO Brendan Banfield said. "For the majority of the year, significant capacity exists; but it is uneven, dynamic and geographically dependent. Its platform helps utilities quantify that capacity, connect customers faster and direct investment to the pockets of the grid that maximise its impact. "Our goal at Gridsight is to use data and intelligence to ensure energy is an enabler for economic and technological progress, not its limiting factor." In Australia, Endeavour Energy deployed Gridsight's unified capacity management platform for real-time solar management, doubling static solar export capacity for households from 5kW to 10kW paired with real-time dynamic control to protect the local grid. This program is expected to unlock more than $100 million in value for customers and 600MW of additional solar capacity for the grid. Gridsight is already working with leading US utilities, including Xcel Energy and United Illuminating, an Avangrid subsidiary. Gridsight's Series B funding round was led by Insight Partners, with participation from Galvanize and existing investors Airtree, Energy Transition Ventures and Aera VC.

Childhood mates' AI energy startup Gridsight raises $36M from Insight Partners for US expansion

New York venture capital firm Insight Partners has led a $36 million funding round in Gridsight, an Australian artificial intelligence start-up focused on the energy sector. The company was co-founded by childhood friends from regional NSW and is now expanding into the United States. Gridsight, which has been operating for six years, develops specialised AI models and digital twin technology that power utilities use to map network capacity. The company already supplies major Australian providers including Endeavour Energy, Essential Energy and SA Power Networks. The funding will support Gridsight's expansion into the US market as it seeks to grow its presence in the energy infrastructure sector.
