Q3 2026 newsletter - insights for infrastructure leaders. Creating lasting value requires looking at the bigger picture. At Milhouse, that means understanding its clients, the infrastructure they manage, and the communities that depend on it. It means looking beyond the immediate project to make thoughtful decisions, solve the right problems, and deliver solutions that create a positive impact for decades to come. In this issue, Milhouse Engineering and Construction, Inc. share perspectives on some of the challenges and opportunities shaping infrastructure today and what leaders should be thinking about as they plan for what comes next. Infrastructure insights. How multidisciplinary engineering can reduce risk on complex airport projects. Early coordination across disciplines helps keep airport projects moving while protecting ongoing operations. Grid modernization is not an engineering capacity problem. It is a delivery risk problem. See how utilities can reduce delivery risk and advance grid modernization without overburdening internal teams. How tolling agencies can lead the next era of equitable transportation infrastructure. Transparent investment, inclusive payment options, responsible data, and community engagement can build tolling systems people trust. Every drop counts: improving non-revenue water through data validity. Better NRW data starts with better processes. Explore practical ways utilities can strengthen water audits and make more confident decisions. Recognition. Milhouse continues its rise among Chicago's largest Engineering Firms. Milhouse has been ranked No. 16 on Crain's Chicago Business' 2026 list of the largest engineering firms in the Chicago area, rising three positions from the previous year. The recognition reflects its continued growth and increasing capacity to help public- and private-sector clients improve the infrastructure, facilities, and essential systems that keep the Chicago region moving. Award-Winning infrastructure creates value from waste. WSSC Water's Piscataway Water Resource Recovery Facility Bioenergy Project is transforming biosolid waste into functional Class A biosolids and renewable natural gas while reducing operational waste, energy use, and environmental impact. As a subcontractor to PC Construction, Milhouse designed the underground natural gas and renewable natural gas lines, including the connection to the Washington Gas system, as well as the facility's fire protection sprinkler systems. The project has earned eight national and regional honors for sustainability, design, construction craftsmanship, project excellence, and safety. These recognitions demonstrate what innovative infrastructure and strong project partnerships can accomplish. Recognized among the nation's leading building Engineering Firms. Milhouse has earned three recognitions in Building Design+Construction's 2026 Giants 400 Report, ranking among the nation's leading Engineering Architecture firms, Top 90 K-12 School Engineering Firms, and Top 75 Sports Facility Engineering Firms. Its facilities work is about making buildings better. Whether Milhouse Engineering and Construction, Inc. is improving an existing facility or helping bring a new one to life, quality engineering can make a meaningful difference in how a building performs and how people experience it. These recognitions reflect the exceptional work its teams are doing to create a positive impact, one building at a time. The heart of the house. As Milhouse Charities enters its 14th year of service, Executive Director Dr. Dawn Milhouse shared these words: "Generational impact remains long after the work is finished and the crews are gone. Milhouse Charities continues the work it was founded to do in 2012: creating a positive impact through access, STEM education, opportunity, hands-on service in the field, and meaningful investment in the communities we serve. We believe legacy lives not in what we leave behind, but in what continues to move forward through people, families, and future generations. That is Purpose in Motion. This is year 14." Developing the next generation. Developing the next generation of AEC talent means giving emerging professionals opportunities to learn beyond the classroom and experience the industry firsthand. Throughout the summer, Milhouse interns gained hands-on experience, connected with industry leaders, and saw infrastructure in action through visits to O'Hare International Airport, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and active project sites. By investing in practical experience, mentorship, and exposure to the many career paths within AEC, Milhouse Engineering and Construction, Inc. is helping prepare the next generation to shape the infrastructure and communities of the future. Candor Electric Supports Major Facility Upgrades at Kenwood Academy High School

Candor Electric supports major facility upgrades at Kenwood Academy High School. February 9, 2026. Candor Electric is proud to have served as the electrical contractor for a critical renovation project at Kenwood Academy High School in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, for the Public Building Commission of Chicago. Led by Milhouse Engineering & Construction, and Gilbane Construction, the project delivered targeted upgrades and repairs across the historic campus, improving safety, accessibility, and building performance - while preserving the school's architectural character. This work was completed under a short timeframe and a limited budget, requiring close coordination, efficient phasing, and a clear focus on high-impact improvements. Candor Electric was honored to contribute to a project that directly benefits students, staff, and the broader Kenwood community. Project Overview Kenwood Academy High School is a landmark facility with decades of service to Chicago Public Schools. The renovation addressed immediate facility needs while ensuring upgrades met current city codes and ADA requirements. Milhouse provided architectural, structural, plumbing, mechanical, environmental, and construction administration services, serving as the architect of record for the improvements. Candor Electric partnered with Milhouse and fellow trades to modernize the school's electrical infrastructure and life-safety systems. Its work supported both the visible improvements - such as lighting in upgraded spaces - and the behind-the-scenes systems that keep the building reliable and secure. Candor Electric Scope of Work Candor Electric delivered comprehensive electrical and low-voltage upgrades to support the project's building improvements, including: New ComEd Service: To improve capacity and reliability, its team installed a new ComEd service to meet the updated needs of the school. This upgrade provides a stronger foundation for future growth and modernization. Expansion of Electrical Distribution System: Candor Electric, Inc. expanded the electrical distribution system to better serve renovated areas and new equipment loads. This included upgrades that enhance power routing, reliability, and maintainability across key zones of the building. Lighting Upgrades: Candor Electric completed lighting upgrades throughout modernized spaces, improving visibility, safety, and overall user comfort. These enhancements support more functional athletic, restroom, and circulation environments. Power for New Mechanical Equipment: Facility-wide mechanical improvements required significant new electrical support. Candor Electric, Inc. provided dedicated power infrastructure for new boilers, absorption chillers, and related DDC BAS components, helping stabilize building temperatures and improve energy performance. Communications Systems: Candor Electric, Inc. upgraded and expanded communications systems to ensure stronger connectivity, improved operational coordination, and a better technology backbone for the school community. Expansion of Fire Alarm System: Candor Electric expanded the fire alarm (F.A.) system, reinforcing life-safety coverage across renovated areas and ensuring compliance with current code requirements. Working Within a Historic Facility A defining feature of this renovation was the need to protect Kenwood Academy's historic architectural details while implementing modern upgrades. Many ceiling and roof areas required targeted repair, and interior improvements had to align with the building's existing character. Candor Electric's team worked carefully within these constraints, routing new systems with precision, minimizing disruption to preserved features, and coordinating field decisions quickly with Milhouse and other trades. The result is a set of upgrades that respect the past while supporting today's standards. Collaboration Executing a project of this complexity within a compressed schedule depends on teamwork. Candor Electric is grateful for the strong coordination among all trades and the leadership provided by Milhouse. Together, the team delivered upgrades that will: * Improve accessibility and safety for students and staff * Support more reliable heating and cooling performance * Increase electrical and communications capacity * Expand life-safety coverage across modernized spaces * Ensure compliance with City of Chicago and ADA requirements Most importantly, these improvements help Kenwood Academy continue serving students in a facility that is safer, more functional, and better equipped for the future. Candor Electric is committed to supporting educational facilities across Chicago with dependable electrical solutions that prioritize safety, performance, and long-term value. Candor Electric, Inc. is proud to have contributed to the Kenwood Academy upgrades and to help sustain vital community institutions through its work. Subscribe.
