Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology or Diagnostic Imaging program is required.
  • A valid State of Florida License as a General Radiographer is required.
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and certification in the primary modality are required.
  • Current CPR and Basic Life Support certification are required.
  • Three years of relevant experience are required.
  • Ability to perform complex specialized tasks associated with MRI scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed safety procedures.
  • Ability to integrate diagnostic and laboratory results, patient history, and medical records and adapt examinations as necessary.
  • Ability to maintain accurate patient records and follow applicable regulatory guidelines, including Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, Florida Department of Health, and FDA/MQSA requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
  • Supervise and perform diagnostic imaging studies under the direction and supervision of a radiologist.
  • Assist radiologists and PhDs in developing facility-specific MRI protocols and imaging techniques.
  • Participate in research initiatives and research protocol development.
  • Monitor daily charging of MRI procedures and supplies for correctness.
  • Demonstrate MRI equipment for site visits by visiting physicians and administrators.
  • Provide in-service classes within the section.
  • Obtain and examine MRI scan orders, verify that orders are appropriate, and resolve discrepancies with supervisors or physicians' offices.
  • Identify patient service requirements and establish rapport with patients and other individuals involved in care.
  • Verify patient identity using the electronic medical record and wristband.
  • Obtain required consents and provide patient education.
  • Perform complex MRI examinations using prescribed safety procedures and age-appropriate standards of practice.
  • Position patients for MRI scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and universal precautions, including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and equipment disinfection.
  • Assist radiologists with imaging and interventional MRI procedures, including starting IVs and injecting contrast when applicable.
  • Evaluate MRI scans for technical quality, sequence and label processed images, and transmit images to PACS.
  • Charge procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant.
  • Dispense oral contrast and operate power injectors for contrast media administration.
  • Provide patient explanations and reassurance, answer questions, and address physical and psychological needs during scanning procedures.
  • Perform basic nursing functions, initiate life-support measures during emergencies, assist with Code Blue procedures, and perform CPR as needed.
  • Apply age-specific and developmental care requirements for children, adolescents, adults, geriatric patients, and challenged or disabled patients.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work area and stock examination and dressing rooms.
  • Provide on-call coverage.
  • Report unusual findings promptly to radiologists or supervisory personnel.
  • Schedule patients and assist with clerical functions.
  • Provide orientation and training to new MRI technologists.
  • Educate and train student technologists.
  • Follow hospital and department human-resources policies and applicable regulatory-body guidelines.
