Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences-accredited Pathologist's Assistant training program are required.
  • Certification as a Pathology Assistant through the American Society for Clinical Pathology is required within six months after hire.
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in laboratory procedures such as dissections, embedding, microtomy, and staining are required.
  • The ability to maintain accurate records and proficiency in quality control procedures and regulatory compliance are required.
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a team and handle multiple tasks under pressure is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform dissections and tissue processing, including embedding, microtomy (tissue sectioning), and staining.
  • Assist in preparing and handling tissue samples to ensure accuracy and readiness for examination by pathologists.
  • Assist with laboratory operations, including inventory management, equipment maintenance, and scheduling.
  • Document and maintain records of laboratory procedures, patient data, and specimen handling.
  • Follow quality control protocols to maintain the integrity and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Collaborate with pathologists, laboratory technicians, and other healthcare professionals to support effective and efficient patient care.
  • Provide guidance and training to team members on laboratory procedures, specimen handling, and result interpretation.
  • Identify and address laboratory issues or challenges so tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.
  • Maintain composure and productivity when working with time-sensitive samples or tasks.
  • Stay current with advancements in laboratory technology and techniques and apply best practices in pathology.
