SpaceX designs, builds, and launches rockets and spacecraft for government and commercial customers, using reusable first stages to cut costs. Its Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy recover their boosters to enable rapid reuse, while Dragon transports cargo and crew to the International Space Station. Starlink operates a satellite internet constellation to provide global broadband coverage. It earns revenue from launches and merchandise, with the broader goal of making space travel cheaper and, over time, enabling human life on other planets and expanding global internet access.

What believers are saying

  • Reuters on August 4 reported Q2 revenue hit $7.8 billion, up 92%.
  • Starlink revenue rose 66%; subscribers doubled to 12 million by June 30.
  • SpaceX expects 1,000 V3 Starlink satellites within a year, anchored by Starship.

What critics are saying

  • July 16 Starship Flight 13 aborted on ignition failure, delaying V3 milestones.
  • May 1 Texas homeowners lawsuit targets Starbase noise, vibrations, and property damage.
  • If FAA grounds Starship again, Starlink V3 and lunar plans stall for years.

What makes SpaceX unique

  • SpaceX owns launch, satellites, and rockets; Starlink funds Starship and AI expansion.
  • July 2026 FAA clearance kept Starship V3 moving after May mishap.
  • Starlink scales globally: 12 million subscribers and first V3 satellite deployments.

SpaceX reports $7.8B revenue, up 92% YoY, with $100B cash buffer and $47.5B order backlog

SpaceX reported strong second-quarter results, with revenue of $7.8 billion, up 92% year-over-year, and adjusted EBITDA of $3.5 billion, up 191%. The company ended the quarter with $100 billion in cash and equivalents and a $47.5 billion order backlog. Following its public debut on 12 June, SpaceX stock briefly reached a $3 trillion valuation before correcting 42% from its all-time high. The company currently holds a $1.5 trillion market capitalisation. SpaceX operates three segments: Space, with 650 total launches and 80% global market share in mass to orbit; Connectivity, with 12 million Starlink subscribers; and Artificial Intelligence, launched in 2023. All three operating segments showed healthy growth during the quarter.

SpaceX signs $6.7B cloud deal to monetise AI infrastructure buildout

SpaceX has secured a $6.7 billion cloud-services contract, with a six-month ramp beginning in October 2026. The deal provides visibility into how quickly the company can monetise its AI infrastructure investments. Second-quarter AI revenues surged 247.5% year over year to $2.56 billion, with $1.60 billion coming from new cloud-services agreements. Adjusted EBITDA improved to $1.15 billion from a $276 million loss, though the AI segment still posted a $1.26 billion operating loss. SpaceX's nameplate compute capacity reached 1.4 gigawatts at 30 June 2026, up from 0.4 gigawatt the previous year. Management expects capacity to exceed 2 gigawatts by year-end. AI capital expenditures totalled $15.83 billion in the second quarter. The company faces customer concentration risks, as cloud-services agreements may be terminated on 90 days' notice after initial ramp periods.

SpaceX stock jumps 12% as Argus upgrades on AI payback hopes despite $541M loss

Space Exploration Technologies shares jumped over 12% on Friday after Argus upgraded the stock to Buy from Hold with a $160 price target. The upgrade follows strong quarterly results, with revenue soaring 92% year-over-year to $7.81 billion. Adjusted EBITDA nearly tripled to $3.54 billion from $1.21 billion, whilst AI revenue exploded 247% to $2.56 billion. The AI segment flipped from a $276 million loss to a $1.15 billion profit. However, AI capital expenditure reached $15.83 billion, and the company posted a $541 million net loss for the quarter. The GF Score of 13 out of 100 signals weak overall business quality, indicating the rally is driven by future expectations rather than current fundamentals.

SpaceX jumps 13% as analyst says $15.8B AI investment could pay back in under a year

SpaceX shares surged approximately 13% on Friday following an analyst upgrade from Argus Research, which cited encouraging returns on the company's artificial intelligence investments. Argus analyst Steven Silver upgraded the stock to Buy from Hold with a $160 price target. The upgrade comes after SpaceX's chief financial officer Bret Johnsen stated the company is achieving "less than a one-year payback" on AI compute spending. SpaceX reported $18.4 billion in second-quarter capital expenditures, with roughly $15.8 billion allocated to AI infrastructure. The company signed $14.1 billion in new cloud contracts during the second quarter and an additional $6.7 billion in early Q3. AI segment revenue jumped 247% year-over-year to approximately $2.6 billion, though the segment posted a $1.3 billion operating loss.

SpaceX spends $15.8B on AI as losses widen despite revenue doubling

SpaceX revealed its financials for the first time, showing nearly doubled revenue and a narrower loss, though shares fell after hours. The company spent about $18.4 billion in Q2 2026, more than twice its revenue, with roughly $15.8 billion—over 85% of investment—going to artificial intelligence infrastructure for xAI, which SpaceX absorbed this year. CEO Elon Musk announced plans to achieve 20 gigawatts of AI compute by end of next year, with Nvidia supplying chips. Management reaffirmed a $100 billion annual revenue run rate target by year-end and moved its $1 trillion revenue goal forward to 2030. The company stated AI investments will pay for themselves within a year, faster than its launch business. Profitable Starlink operations now help fund the AI expansion.
