Requirements
  • A sound knowledge and background in geriatric, rehabilitation, or long-term care nursing, including activation, nursing, and personnel administration.
  • Knowledge of the Nursing Homes Act and Regulations, Homes for Special Care Act, Extended Care Program Directives, the appropriate sections of the Health Disciplines Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food and Drugs Act (Canada), Narcotic Control Act (Canada), and other pertinent federal, provincial, and municipal statutes influencing the operation of the residence and nursing department.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate resident care activities within approved policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate onboarding and annual staff education, staff health and safety, and infection prevention and control programs.
  • Ensure residents’ care is evaluated continuously.
  • Work closely with the registered staff team and the RAI-MDS Coordinator to ensure appropriate documentation is in place and regulatory compliance is maintained.
  • Review and audit PointClickCare documentation, including progress notes, care plans, and resident assessments.
  • Ensure care plans are developed, updated, reviewed regularly, and followed consistently.
  • Audit resident care plans quarterly and ensure documentation accurately reflects residents’ care requirements.
  • Respond to resident or family concerns and take appropriate action within decision-making authority or bring concerns to the Director of Care.
Desired Qualifications
  • Postgraduate studies in nursing, nursing administration, and geriatrics are considered an asset.
