  • A PhD in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Biology, or Bioinformatics.
  • At least one first-author peer-reviewed publication demonstrating research excellence.
  • A proven track record of leading successful research projects in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Applied Artificial Intelligence, and/or clinically focused applications.
  • A doctoral degree or M.D.
  • 0–1 year of postdoctoral research experience in an academic or industrial laboratory setting, teaching assistantship in a university setting, residency, or clinical duties beyond the qualifying doctoral degree.
  • Ability to make decisions guided by general instructions and practices that require some interpretation.
  • Ability to address varied problems requiring analysis or interpretation using direct observation, knowledge, and skills based on general precedents.
  • Ability to follow precedents and procedures, set priorities, and organize work within general guidelines while seeking assistance with difficult or unpredictable situations.
  • Ability to summarize and communicate moderately complex information in English in varied written formats.
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families, and external customers.
  • In-depth knowledge of concepts, practices, and policies with the ability to apply them in complex, varied situations.
  • Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups across internal and external functions.
  • Ability to provide customer service and staff training to meet assigned-unit standards and resolve service issues.
  • Ability to perform light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently and standing or moving throughout the hospital campus.
  • All staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Pursue research under the supervision of a principal investigator while developing skills for independent work.
  • Receive training and perform duties contributing to the team's investigational work, including formulating research questions, designing and conducting experiments, and evaluating results.
  • Prepare and publish scientific manuscripts under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Develop expertise in laboratory skills, informatics, physics, and clinical research, and develop proficiency with research tools and equipment.
  • Develop new ideas that promote current research and bring new expertise to the research program.
  • Teach and provide supervision of students and their projects when appropriate.
  • Participate in collaborative meetings with other research groups and attend and lead scientific seminars.
  • Identify, acknowledge, and correct deficiencies in personal performance.
  • Pursue and secure independent funding near the end of the fellowship under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Abide by institutional policies relating to health and safety, equality of opportunity, and data storage and management.
Desired Qualifications
  • Research experience in Digital Pathology, Cancer Genomics, Somatic Mutation Analysis, Drug Discovery, or Therapeutic Development.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or public code repositories such as GitHub.
  • Demonstrated leadership, resilience, and initiative through academic achievements, professional experience, volunteer work, or other meaningful endeavors.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
