  • High school diploma or equivalent, relevant experience, certification, or license.
  • One of the following credentials: Certified Medical Assistant from the American Association of Medical Assistants; Registered Medical Assistant from American Medical Technologists; Certified Clinical Medical Assistant from the National Healthcare Association; National Certified Medical Assistant from the National Healthcare Association or National Center for Competency Testing; or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant from the National Association for Health Professionals.
  • No previous experience is required.
  • Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Proficiency with office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Ability to perform within the clinical scope of practice and comply with State, Federal, and University of Miami standards, guidelines, statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of medical and surgical asepsis and sterile technique.
  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements and patient-information privacy standards.
Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with healthcare management and clinical procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician.
  • Provide hands-on patient care in accordance with regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Support patients’ individual needs and respect their spiritual beliefs, faith, and practices.
  • Establish trusting relationships with patients and families by creating a conducive climate for healing, identifying and managing discomforts, and providing emotional support.
  • Prioritize and integrate multiple requests and work expectations while performing tasks safely, professionally, and in a timely manner.
  • Communicate clearly and in a timely manner with patients, families, and appropriate team members, and seek assistance when needed.
  • Participate in unit or clinic programs and meetings to contribute to team building.
  • Use available technology resources for communication, documentation, and locating pertinent information about clinical situations, diagnoses, and treatments.
  • Maintain current clinical practice skills through education, competency development, and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulatory guidelines, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements.
  • Incorporate clinical protocols and standards of care into daily practice.
  • Provide and accept focused constructive feedback and guidance in a manner that supports growth and maintains self-esteem.
  • Adhere to ethical behavior and therapeutic communication standards and protect patient information privacy.
  • Assist providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment and examination rooms with proper supplies, instruments, and materials.
  • Prepare patients for physician care by providing basic instruction and information about examination procedures.
  • Perform vital signs, electrocardiograms, and phlebotomy, and document the results in the patient’s medical record.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments while observing sterile-technique principles.
  • Schedule patients for tests and complete required laboratory-work forms.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
  • Order, stock, and inventory supplies and assist with clerical duties.
  • Follow University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
