About the Job

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and at least 3 years of technical engineering experience, or a master's degree in one of those fields and at least 6 years of technical engineering experience, or a bachelor's degree in one of those fields and at least 8 years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Provide proof of country of citizenship, U.S. residency, or other protected status to establish eligibility to access export-controlled information; citizenship will be verified with a valid passport, with other documents accepted for lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees where applicable.
  • Applied understanding of computer architecture and CPU/SoC validation principles, including SoC subsystem-, SoC system-, and platform-level functionality, and writing scripts or software using industry-standard languages such as Python or C/C++.
  • Experience in verification, logic development, analog validation, or validation tools as part of a CPU, SoC, and/or IP development team.
  • Demonstrated validation expertise in one or more of the following: functional I/O interfaces such as PCIe, CXL, or USB; electrical interfaces including SerDes, I/O, high-speed interconnect, or analog circuits; power and performance; or automation, content creation, or tool/script development.
  • Ability to develop synthetic SoC validation content for Core, Coherency, Memory, and I/O to run in bare-metal and operating-system environments.
  • Ability to develop sophisticated tools and scripts for SoC validation debugging, including maximum power, current transients, and register dumps.
  • Understanding of board-level schematics.
  • Understanding of system-level software and firmware.
  • Experience running silicon content on pre-silicon platforms such as emulation or FPGA.
  • Demonstrated success in hardware/software debugging.
  • Hands-on expertise debugging silicon failures using on-chip debug features such as trace or JTAG, and test equipment such as oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, and bit error rate testers.
  • Preferred: Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and at least 5 years of technical engineering experience, or a master's degree in one of those fields and at least 8 years, or a bachelor's degree in one of those fields and at least 12 years, or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: At least 1 year of experience working on or leading projects from beginning to end.
  • Preferred: Proficient communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills, and the ability to lead, grow, and contribute to diverse and inclusive teams.
  • Preferred: Demonstrated leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own post-silicon validation of PCIe, functional I/O, or electrical/analog interfaces.
  • Define, guide, and contribute to implementing silicon debug tools and capabilities.
  • Develop expertise in the architecture and implementation of high-speed I/O interfaces, including PCI, CXL, and PLL, and their interactions with other SoC components, the platform, and software.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to other engineers in areas of expertise.
  • Develop validation strategy, requirements, environments, tools, and methodologies, including debug-board and hardware/software requirements.
  • Apply validation principles and techniques to write test plans and implement them by developing test content, scripts, tools, and other validation collateral.
  • Execute post-silicon content and triage and debug failures.
  • Engage with partners to improve the design, validation plans and collateral, and methodology to prevent, reduce, or detect bugs sooner, more easily, or more reliably.
  • Collaborate with and influence architects, logic designers, verification engineers, other post-silicon validators, and IP and tool providers.
  • Deliver high-quality results on schedule.
  • Provide technical leadership with respect and integrity.
  • Apply expertise to pre-silicon verification plans, tests, and debugging in the relevant area.

Desired Qualifications

  • Preferred: Demonstrated validation expertise in functional I/O interfaces such as PCIe, CXL, or USB; electrical areas such as SerDes, I/O, high-speed interconnect, or analog circuits; power and performance; or automation, content creation, or tool/script development.
  • Preferred: Experience running silicon content on pre-silicon platforms such as emulation or FPGA.
  • Preferred: Demonstrated success in hardware/software debugging.
