Requirements
  • A Medical Laboratory Scientist must have a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university and either successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science program, ASCP categorical certification, or at least two years of experience in a role equivalent to Medical Laboratory Technician in a clinical laboratory.
  • A Medical Laboratory Technician must have an associate degree in laboratory science and certification, or eligibility for certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of one year of laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Successful completion of initial and subsequent competency examinations is required.
  • Candidates must be able to perform laboratory work in a clinical environment and comply with job-specific obligations and organizational policies.
  • Candidates must be able to operate laboratory equipment, report laboratory results, perform laboratory services, organize work, manage time, and communicate effectively.
  • Military experience in a comparable clinical or medical laboratory specialty will be considered.
Responsibilities
  • Perform and report various analyses from multiple specimen sources.
  • Perform duties that provide patient care and maximize patient satisfaction within the assigned clinical area.
  • Maintain the expected level of productivity, manage multiple work processes efficiently, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Handle specimens properly, confirm patient identification and specimen suitability, use appropriate accessioning procedures, and recognize discrepancies on patient orders.
  • Resolve and report problems and solutions as appropriate.
  • Perform and record instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control.
  • Replenish reagents and supplies according to established protocols.
  • Follow computerized, verbal, and manual reporting procedures as appropriate.
  • Navigate and access multiple computer applications needed for job functionality.
  • Assist in training and orienting new employees.
  • Participate in educational activities to maintain current knowledge in the field.

  • A Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Medical Technology is preferred.
