DTF printing technology shifts to automated production. 02 September 2026: Across commercial garment-decoration shops, DTF printing technology is moving toward purpose-built production systems. By 2026, suppliers had introduced wider printers, automated maintenance, jettable adhesive and better workflow software. The shift matters because commercial runs demand steady white ink, controlled curing, repeatable colour and less operator intervention. How DTF printing technology is changing Direct-to-film printing creates a transfer rather than printing straight onto a garment. A printer deposits colour and a white underbase on film, adhesive is added and cured, and a heat press bonds the image to fabric. A recent DTF transfer process example used this sequence to turn AI-generated artwork into personalised T-shirts. The latest production systems are tackling four practical constraints: printhead reliability, white-ink stability, film handling and operator time. They do not remove process control. Shops still need to match ink, film, adhesive, curing conditions and press settings as one tested system. Purpose-built printers reduce routine intervention Epson's SureColor G6070 product page shows how hardware is changing. The 35.4-inch printer uses Nozzle Verification Technology, sealed ink packs and an automated maintenance system. Epson also lists remote job tracking and notifications through Epson Cloud Solution PORT. Its wider print area fits more designs across a roll and supports oversized graphics. Epson says its UltraChrome DF inks carry OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT certification. That certification applies to the named ink, not to every film, adhesive or finished garment produced on the machine. Buyers should check each consumable and the documentation required by their customers. Powder-free adhesive has entered the market Conventional DTF production applies thermoplastic powder to wet ink before curing. Powder shakers can automate application, recovery and movement through a dryer, but shops still have to control coverage, temperature and housekeeping. DuPont announced its Artistri Jettable Adhesive for PRINTING United Expo 2025. The liquid adhesive is printed inline and removes the TPU powder step when used with DuPont's specified ink and film. Screen Print India's report on the powder-free DTF system explains the intended industrial setup. This is a commercial product development, not proof that powder has become obsolete. A shop should test wash resistance, hand feel, fabric range, output speed and consumable cost before changing its process. Software now controls more of the job RIP and production software increasingly combine colour profiling, white-underbase controls, nesting and queue management. Fiery's Digital Factory 12 workflow, announced in December 2025, added a visual gang-sheet builder, queue-based nesting and optional printer profiling. These tools can cut setup work and film waste, although results still depend on accurate profiles and disciplined production settings. Other packages take a similar route. Screen Print India's report on Caldera's DTF software describes controls for alignment, colour bars, white undercoats and colour knockouts on Windows, macOS and Linux. What should buyers test before investing? * White-ink reliability: check circulation, nozzle monitoring, cleaning time and restart behaviour after idle periods. * End-to-end output: measure sellable transfers per hour, including powdering or adhesive printing, curing, cutting and pressing. * Wash performance: test the exact ink, film, adhesive, fabric and press recipe after repeated laundering. * Working conditions: review ventilation, powder containment, odour, heat and consumable safety documents. * Software fit: confirm colour profiling, nesting, repeat-job recall and cost tracking with real customer files. Yes. Suppliers specify DTF systems for cotton, polyester and blended fabrics, but adhesion and wash results depend on the complete consumable set and transfer recipe. Test each fabric before accepting production work. Is powder-free DTF ready for production? At least one named industrial system is commercially documented: DuPont's jettable adhesive works with its specified Artistri ink and DTF-120 film. That does not make it a drop-in replacement for every printer. Compatibility and economics require shop-level testing. The direction is clear: DTF printing is becoming more controlled and less dependent on manual intervention. The best system will not be the one with the longest feature list; it will be the one that produces repeatable transfers, survives wash testing and fits the shop's real order mix. Share With:
How pectin became a Key ingredient in modern food manufacturing. Published on: 31 aug 2026. Pull a jar of jam off any supermarket shelf and there is a good chance pectin is the reason it holds together. Most people have never heard of it, yet it shows up in jams, yogurt drinks, gummies, and even certain tablets at the pharmacy. It is one of those ingredients that works quietly in the background, doing its job without ever asking for credit. This scenario is starting to change. As food brands race to strip artificial additives off their labels, pectin has moved from being a background player to a genuine selling point. The global pectin market is anticipated to be valued at US$1.2 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach US$1.8 billion by 2033, growing at a CAGR of 6% in the forecast period, according to Persistence Market Research. For a niche ingredient extracted mainly from fruit peels, that is a respectable climb. Clean-label Trends Are Giving Fruit Waste a Second Life Pectin comes from citrus peels and apple pomace, the leftover material from juice and cider production that used to be treated as waste. Regulators such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) classify it as a natural, plant-derived additive, which gives it an edge as manufacturers replace synthetic stabilizers with recognizable ingredients. Jams, dairy alternatives, and confectionery brands are reformulating shelf by shelf, and pectin fits neatly into that shift because consumers already trust anything described as fruit-derived. Turning peel waste into a functional ingredient also gives processors a second revenue stream from material they once paid to dispose of, a rare win for both sustainability and the bottom line. Low-sugar Formulations Are Increasing Pectin Demand Cutting sugar without ruining texture is one of the toughest problems in food science, and pectin has become one of the more dependable fixes. Low-methoxyl pectin can form a gel even when sugar levels drop sharply, which matters as health authorities keep pushing for low sugar content in packaged food items. Ingredient makers have noticed this trend. CP Kelco introduced organically derived pectin powders built for better stabilizing performance in dairy and plant-based drinks, while DuPont Nutrition & Biosciences launched a pectin-based texturizer aimed at vegan gummies and yogurts. Both moves point to the same reality, i.e., reduced-sugar products still need something to hold their structure, and pectin is the ingredient doing that work. Pharmaceutical Companies Are Discovering New Uses for Pectin Food is still where most pectin ends up, but it is no longer the only growth trajectory. Its gel-forming, biocompatible nature makes it useful in controlled-release drug delivery and wound-care dressings, and pharmaceutical companies are paying attention. Cargill expanded its pharmaceutical-grade pectin line with UniPECTINE, designed for controlled-release oral formulations, including delivery systems that target the colon. Personal care brands are experimenting with it too, using pectin as a natural texturizer in creams and ointments. None of this rivals food applications in scale yet, but pharmaceutical use is expected to grow faster than any other application through 2033. Raw Material Availability Remains the Key Challenge Pectin production depends entirely on citrus and apple harvests, and harvests are not always predictable. Droughts, heavy rainfall, and disease pressure can throw off peel and pomace volumes from one season to the next, making it harder for producers to lock in long-term supply contracts. Add in competition from substitutes such as xanthan gum and guar gum, and pectin producers often find it difficult to pass rising raw material costs on to customers. Companies are responding by securing their own feedstock. Südzucker acquired a citrus peel facility in India through Hindustan Pectin to shore up supply for its European and Asian operations. Also, CP Kelco is expanding production capacity at its facility in Limeira, Brazil, by around 30% to keep up with demand. These are not small and cautious investments. They are bets that demand for natural stabilizers is not slowing down anytime soon. Asia Pacific is Building Domestic Pectin Capabilities Europe currently leads global demand, boosted by a well-established citrus processing industry and strict clean-label regulations. But Asia Pacific is where the momentum is building fastest, supported by expanding food processing infrastructure and government-backed investment. India's Ministry of Food Processing Industries has widened its Agri-Infrastructure Fund to support local ingredient extraction facilities, aiming to reduce the region's dependence on imported pectin. Australia is making a similar move. Pectin 360 recently secured government funding to build the country's first domestic pectin and fiber production facility, converting fruit waste into usable ingredients through a zero-waste process. It is a small project by global standards, but it exhibits a broad pattern, i.e., more countries want to make this ingredient at home instead of importing it. The Future of Pectin Lies Beyond Traditional Applications Pectin is not a flashy ingredient, and it probably never will be. But it sits at the intersection of three trends that are not going away anytime soon, namely, consumers who want fewer synthetic additives, manufacturers who need natural ways to cut sugar without losing texture, and industries beyond food that are discovering what this fruit-derived polysaccharide can do. Companies that lock in reliable supply and keep innovating on functional grades look best positioned to benefit as this market keeps expanding through the rest of the decade.
