Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, business management, or a related field is required.
  • Three to five years of accounting, financial management, related experience, and business advising experience are required.
  • At least one year of operational experience carrying out assignments using management skills is required.
  • Experience working in a consulting or related service organization on assignments for external clients is required.
  • Familiarity with computer programming and data analysis techniques is required.
  • Knowledge of a specialized business field such as accounting, sales, or marketing is required.
  • The ability to meet and work with diverse groups of people is required.
  • Verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Willingness to travel extensively on short notice and make overnight stays when required is necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and analyze small business issues and provide solutions-based approaches and recommendations.
  • Work with New Hampshire small businesses across finance, marketing, administration, regulatory, and other management issues.
  • Conduct research on small business issues nationally and in New Hampshire and apply findings to client advising.
  • Work with federal and state programs to increase education, outreach, and awareness of environmental issues and programs available to small businesses.
  • Interview clients and assess their needs.
  • Provide in-depth, one-on-one confidential business advising and technical assistance to start-up and existing businesses.
  • Determine appropriate educational resources to share with clients.
  • Identify and analyze business issues, develop and implement timely solutions, and conduct research using public and private sources.
  • Assist clients with developing business, financing, and marketing plans, as well as addressing personnel issues and understanding the state and regional business climate.
  • Promote growth and sustainability through sales increases, job creation, and capital formation.
  • Maintain client files in the Small Business Development Center database and manage client data in the management information system.
  • Provide information on client stories and support Lead Center requests, including surveys and time-sensitive requests.
  • Understand the network of professionals to which businesses may need to be referred.
  • Attend Small Business Development Center staff events, state and regional meetings, and conferences as required.
  • Promote the Small Business Development Center program and advocate for small businesses through presentations to communities and other entities.
  • Support the development of advertising, promotion, and marketing materials.
  • Support area, state, and federal small-business projects and disseminate results to the community.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community economic development organizations, lending institutions, private-sector organizations, and referral partners.
  • Identify opportunities to improve service through professional development.
  • Complete other special assignments as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Small business ownership experience is preferred.
