Mariska Hargitay to host 2026 Emmy Awards on NBC. Mariska Hargitay was front and center at NBCUniversal's Emmy Kick-Off Luncheon, with everyone gathering around her for the traditional group photo. (You can watch the video below.) The beloved Law & Order: SVU star will now hold the same position on the Emmy stage as the host of the 78th awards on Sept. 14, airing live coast-to-coast on NBC and streaming on Peacock from the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE. It will mark the first major hosting gig for the Emmy-winning actress who just got live stage experience with the interactive solo show Every Brilliant Thing in her Broadway debut. NBC and the Television Academy considered talent both within and outside of NBCUniversal for the job. In the end, they went with an NBC icon as the network is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Watch on Deadline. It is the first time since the Angela Lansbury-hosted 1993 Emmys that the ceremony is not emceed by a comedian, comedy actor or a TV personality/reality host. "Bringing important stories into the light has been the heartbeat of my career. It's my great honor to host the 78th Emmy Awards - in the 100th birthday year of my beloved NBC - and celebrate this extraordinary community of storytellers," Hargitay said. "Whether it's an actor or a director, a costumer or a sound designer, we are all so privileged to take part in creating television that unites us. Regardless of how, where or when we watch, we are together in our laughter, our tears, our love of stories - and our delighted anticipation to see what happens next." For 27 seasons and counting, Hargitay has starred as Capt. Olivia Benson on NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the longest-running primetime live-action drama in television history. The role, a popular culture staple, has earned Hargitay an Emmy Award, with an additional eight nominations, and a Golden Globe. In addition to starring, Hargitay serves as an executive producer and director on the crime drama, which is returning for Season 28 this fall, crossing the 600 episode mark. And speaking with Deadline at the Emmy luncheon, she was pretty confident that the show can go to 30 seasons. Inspired by her role on SVU, Hargitay founded the nonprofit organization Joyful Heart Foundation to support survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse on their path to justice and healing. In 2019, the Hargitay-produced film I Am Evidence went on to win the Emmy for Best Documentary. Most recently, she directed My Mom Jayne, a documentary exploring the life and legacy of her mother, Hollywood star Jayne Mansfield. Nominations for the 78th Emmy Awards will be announced on Wednesday, July 8, streaming live at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT on Emmys.com.

NEW: Try Article Audio Audio quality: | Comcast plans to split off from NBCUniversal into an independent publicly traded company, the company said Monday, ending a 15-year partnership as it adapts to the rapidly changing media landscape. The company said its board and management team believe the split will better position both businesses to pursue their own strategic priorities, invest for growth and create long-term shareholder value as independent entities. Brian Roberts, Comcast chairman and co-CEO, will "continue to be actively involved in the leadership" of both Comcast and NBCUniversal, "working in partnership with the CEOs of both companies," the company said. The standalone NBCUniversal will include the theme park division, Universal film and television studios, NBC Telemundo networks, Bravo and the streaming service Peacock. Its portfolio will also include Sky, a European media company. Comcast will redirect its focus on delivering broadband, wireless and entertainment platforms to its 65 million homes and businesses. "This is a very exciting day for our company," said Roberts in a statement. "The transaction we are announcing will unlock a more entrepreneurial management approach and open up a multitude of new opportunities for each business. I very much look forward to helping guide our collective growth for this next chapter." "This new company will be well-positioned to pursue the significant opportunities that lie ahead, to partner across the media and entertainment ecosystem, and will be poised to grow," he added. Following the separation, which is expected to take a year to complete, Comcast shareholders will own shares in both companies. It said the deal would create "two focused industry leaders, each with significant scale, strong financial profiles and distinct strategic opportunities." Comcast acquired NBCUniversal in 2011 from then-owner General Electric for $6.2 billion. Two years later, in 2013, Comcast paid $16.7 billion to complete the buyout. "Both companies begin this next chapter from positions of strength," said Mike Cavanagh, Comcast co-CEO. "Comcast will continue to build on its leadership in connectivity, while NBCUniversal, together with Sky, will have the scale, brands, content and financial resources to compete as a premier global media and entertainment company." He continued, "Each organization will continue to be led by a management team with deep industry experience that will benefit from focused strategic priorities and the ability to pursue opportunities most relevant to their businesses." The move from Comcast is the latest in a fast-changing media industry. Meanwhile, Paramount Skydance works toward closing a $110 billion deal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, as Fox is in the process of acquiring Roku in a $22 billion deal. Looking for comments? Find comments in their new home! Peacock launches shoppable Bravo series that is essentially a Target advert with chat.

Peacock launches shoppable Bravo series that is essentially a Target advert with chat. News Posted by By Paul M June 11, 2026 NBCUniversal launches Shop What Happens on Peacock this Sunday, a five-episode weekly series that sits somewhere between a talk show and a retail catalogue, built around Bravo personalities and title sponsor Target. The format strips the bones of Watch What Happens Live, removes most of the gossip, and inserts a purchasing mechanism: QR codes on screen direct viewers to Target products featured in each ten-minute episode. Daryn Carp, a long-time Bravo digital correspondent who previously hosted PEOPLE TV's Reality Check and earned a Telly Award for best online talk show, fronts the series alongside Bravo figures including Cynthia Bailey, Lindsay Hubbard and Nia Sanchez. Recording takes place in the same Manhattan building that houses Watch What Happens Live. Carp told Variety the ambition is frictionless consumption: "We want to make it as easy to digest as possible." The show distributes across Peacock, YouTube and TikTok, with vertical video formatting on mobile and a text-to-shop option for those who cannot be bothered with a QR code. TV & Video Discover more Movie & TV Streaming TV Comedies Comedy Films The series is the most direct expression yet of NBCUniversal's shoppable TV strategy, which has been developing since a 2023 pilot with Walmart on Below Deck Mediterranean and has since expanded across six Bravo titles. Michelle Mesenburg, Target's chief brand officer, told Media Play News that the company sees content, entertainment and shopping as a single continuous experience for modern consumers. NBCUniversal claims the combination of IP, talent and shoppable technology has driven a 378 per cent increase in engagement and 60 per cent year-on-year purchase growth. NBCUniversal has built a piece of content whose entire purpose is to move product, dressed in the familiar language of Bravo fandom. The first episode streams on 14 June.

Apple and Google are joining forces. A new HDR standard for movies is being established.

Apple and Google are joining forces. A new HDR standard for movies is being established. Table of contents: The HDR technology market has long been dominated by a few well-known standards, such as Dolby Vision and HDR10+. However, a new player developed by the largest technology companies in the world may soon join this group. Apple and Google unexpectedly joined forces with NBCUniversal to create their own solution for displaying high dynamic range images. The result of this collaboration is Eclipsa Video, a new standard aimed at improving the quality of video content on various devices. The project could significantly impact the future of the HDR market and trigger further changes in the multimedia industry. Eclipsa Video is designed to improve image quality on any screen. The new standard has been developed based on the SMPTE ST 2094-50 specification. Although the technical name may not mean much to the average user, its purpose is to significantly enhance the way HDR content is displayed. According to Google, the technology is designed to make films look as close as possible to the creators' vision, regardless of the device type or lighting conditions. Advanced metadata transmitted alongside the video material plays a key role here. The first mechanism establishes a common reference point for image brightness. This allows standard content and HDR materials to be displayed on the same screen without issues related to incorrect brightness levels. The second solution enables dynamic adjustments of the image to the capabilities of a specific display. If the screen cannot achieve very high brightness, the system intelligently modifies the presentation of individual image elements. This helps preserve details in both bright and dark sections of the scene. In theory, users will receive a more consistent experience, regardless of the equipment they are using. This is particularly important at a time when content is viewed on dozens of different types of devices. Therefore, Eclipsa Video is intended to function as a universal set of instructions to help screens correctly interpret HDR materials. Do Dolby Vision and HDR10+ have reasons to be concerned? The emergence of a new standard has immediately raised questions about its impact on the current market leaders. Many observers view ChooseTV as a potential alternative to Dolby Vision, just as previously ChooseAudio was supposed to be a response to Dolby Atmos. The situation is further complicated by the fact that an organization responsible for the administration of the new solution, HDR10+, although the standard itself was developed in collaboration with Apple and Google. At this moment, it is still unclear how the cooperation between the various HDR formats will look. The market has already gotten used to the functioning of several competing standards simultaneously, so a similar scenario is very likely this time as well. The direction of implementing the new technology is also interesting. The first devices supporting ChooseTV are expected to appear in the smartphone, tablet, and computer segments. Televisions will receive support only at a later stage of the project's development. Google also confirmed that the standard would be integrated with the Chrome browser. There are also speculations in the industry that ChooseTV may be linked to the development of a new generation of video codecs created by the Alliance for Open Media. If these assumptions are confirmed, the technology could play a significant role in the future of internet streaming. For now, the project remains in its early development phase, but the involvement of Apple and Google makes it worth closely following its further developments. Eclipsa Video is a new HDR standard developed jointly by Apple, Google, and NBCUniversal. The technology aims to improve the way HDR content is displayed by using intelligent metadata that adapts the image to the capabilities of a specific device. Initially, the solution will be available on smartphones, tablets, and computers, and only later on televisions. Although many questions remain unanswered, Eclipsa Video could become one of the most important HDR formats on the market in the future. Redakcja Choose TV ChooseTVteam-title
