Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of welding experience is required.
  • Knowledge of welding processes such as gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux-cored arc welding, and related fabrication methods is required.
  • Understanding of weld symbols, blueprints, and fabrication drawings is required.
  • Understanding of quality systems and documentation requirements is required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making capability is required.
  • Ability to motivate and develop employees is required.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Direct welders and support staff by assigning work, monitoring productivity, and driving accountability based on priorities, schedules, and resource availability.
  • Monitor productivity, labor utilization, and workflow status to meet production targets.
  • Manage bottlenecks, capacity planning, and work prioritization in alignment with Production Control.
  • Conduct shift-start meetings, communicate expectations, and reinforce accountability.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop employees to improve skills and performance.
  • Participate in performance evaluations and disciplinary processes as needed, and support hiring and training.
  • Ensure welding is performed with approved procedures, drawings, travelers, and work instructions.
  • Own weld department throughput and schedule adherence to support on-time delivery.
  • Identify and remove production barriers, and escalate constraints, delays, or risks proactively.
  • Support overtime planning and staffing adjustments as needed to meet commitments.
  • Ensure compliance with welding procedures, qualifications, applicable codes and standards, NAVSEA requirements, customer requirements, and internal quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with Quality Assurance for inspections, documentation, and corrective actions.
  • Support investigations related to nonconformances, corrective actions, and root cause analysis.
  • Ensure proper traceability, documentation completion, and record integrity.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices and compliance with OSHA and company safety requirements.
  • Ensure welding equipment, materials, and work areas are maintained in safe condition.
  • Participate in safety audits, hazard identification, and corrective actions.
  • Support Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and workflow.
  • Participate in operational improvement projects and process development.
  • Use data and metrics to drive performance improvements.
  • Coordinate with Engineering regarding router integrity, technical questions, weld procedures, and process improvements.
  • Coordinate with Quality, Planning, and Program Management to ensure program success.
  • Partner with Engineering and Quality on process improvement and new product introduction.
  • Communicate status, risks, and priorities effectively to leadership.
  • Ensure accurate labor charging and time reporting within the enterprise resource planning system.
  • Maintain departmental documentation and records.
  • Use production data to monitor performance against safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals.
  • Ensure compliance with NAVSEA requirements including 1688, TP-278, and TP-271 where applicable.
  • Maintain weld traceability and support documentation control requirements.
  • Coordinate in-house visual testing, penetrant testing, and magnetic particle testing, and support outsourced radiographic testing and ultrasonic testing activities.
  • Maintain weld continuity and support audit-readiness activities.
  • Own 5S discipline and workplace organization within the weld area.
  • Develop and maintain welder certification matrices.
Desired Qualifications
  • Technical training or certification in welding is preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
  • Experience in defense, aerospace, or regulated manufacturing environments is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with welding codes and standards such as AWS, NAVSEA, ASME, or similar is preferred.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning or manufacturing systems is preferred.
