Public-Sector Data Science & Analytics Lead
About the job
- Five or more years of applied data science, analytics, or quantitative public-policy work in government, public consulting, or research-to-practice.
- Demonstrated delivery of at least two public-sector or quasi-public analytic products, specifying the agency, the candidate’s role, and the year.
- Strong statistical literacy and clear writing for non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work on a project basis with AlphaGov as a named collaborator on proposals when permission is granted.
- Ability to work remotely within the United States and travel to clients occasionally as needed.
- Lead or co-lead public-sector analytics engagements involving forecasting, performance measurement, data quality, and dashboard or implementation support.
- Frame analytic questions with domain experts and translate findings for executives and elected or appointed stakeholders.
- Build reproducible analyses using administrative and public datasets, and document methods and limitations.
- Advise on data governance, quality controls, privacy constraints, and sustainable handoff to agency staff.
- Produce decision-ready products for cities, counties, state agencies, transit and utility authorities, and school systems.
- Coordinate with evaluation, labor market information and workforce, and operations subject-matter experts when scopes overlap.
- Contribute technical write-ups, scopes, and proposal content when naming is authorized.
- Python and/or R, plus modern business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
- Familiarity with government administrative data, privacy, or Institutional Review Board-adjacent constraints.
- Experience with transit, utility, workforce, education, or Medicaid analytics.
- Familiarity with cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift.
